Doris Katherine Eppler Buri RACINE Doris Katherine Eppler Buri, 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 24, 2014 with her family by her side. Doris was born April 7, 1929 to Fred and RoseMarie (Braun) Eppler. On April 12, 1946 she was united in marriage to Donald L. Buri of Aurora IL. Together they had 8 children. Doris spent most of her life being a wife and mother. Being an avid knitter, she knitted her girls Barbie clothes, hats, mittens and scarves. Everyone in the family, as well as numerous friends, received the coveted Afghans she created along with knitted Christmas tree skirts. She would excitedly teach anyone that wanted to learn how to knit or crochet. For many years, she knitted hats and blankets for the "Toys for Tots" program. Later in her life, she took up the craft of making ceramics! Doris loved going out to the movies with her friend, Kaye. One of her favorite pastimes was going out to eat. She enjoyed camping with her daughter, Linda. She also enjoyed travelling to South Dakota to visit her daughter, Virginia and family. Her greatest love was shopping and buying gifts for others! Doris was certainly a very generous and giving person! Along with her husband, Donald, she accepted many disabled individuals into their adult Family Care Home. She loved her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren with all of her being. Doris had been employed by Greene Manufacturing, St. Mary's Hospital and Mr. Z's Pizza. She was very involved in Al-Anon, encouraging others by speaking in open meetings and conventions over her husband's 17 years of sobriety. She got great enjoyment from the time she spent dancing, especially the Polka. Surviving to cherish her memory are sons, David (Patricia) Buri and Mark Buri, both of Racine; daughters, Susan White, Linda (Charles) Wasik, both of Racine; Virginia (Kevin) Beck of Worthing, SD; adult foster daughter, Alice Morgan of Racine; brother, George (Helen) Eppler of Élan, WI; sister, Rose (Eppler) Mason of Racine; sister-in-law, Anna Eppler of Shawano, WI; brother-in-law, David (Verna ) Buri of Sandwich IL; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; along with numerous other children and grandchildren she "adopted" over the years. She was also survived by many beloved nieces & nephews and friend, Katherine Goodland. She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers and sisters; her husband, Donald; three daughters, Phyliss Buri, Christine (Buri) Matek and Donna (Buri) Hill. The family wishes to express their love and gratitude to so many who prayed and supported them through this difficult time. Special thanks go to caregivers: granddaughters, Heidi Buri, Michelle Buri and Angela Wasik; nieces, Sharrie Eppler Jensen and Jeanette Hughes Mixon; lastly, to other very special care givers: Jennifer Reff, Norma Turner, Kim Stier, Donna Webb, Amy Dehne, and Karen Kohler.
