Ellen Kirstine Johnson RACINE – Ellen Kirstine (nee: Jensen) Johnson, 93, a child of God went home to her Father in heaven on Sunday, June 29, 2014. Born on the family farm on February 16, 1921, the daughter of the late Christian and Margaret (nee: Johansen) Jensen. Ellen attended Sturtevant Grade School, Horlick High School graduate “Class of 1939” and attended Dana College in Blair Nebraska. She was employed at Racine Hydraulics, J. I. Case Company in the Wing Division during World War II and finally was a legal secretary in the Legal Department of S. C. Johnson, where she met and later married her husband, Robert K. Johnson. They were united in marriage on April 2, 1949 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church and celebrated 50 years of marriage. Ellen was an active member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church; where she was a Sunday School Teacher, served on the Altar Guild, the Evangelism Committee and attended Monday Morning Bible Study. She also was a member of Dorcas Guild. Ellen’s great love was gardening, baking, canning and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving are her children, David R. (Margaret ‘Peggy’) Johnson and Elyse ‘Lisa’ (Kenneth) Petersen; grandchildren, Amy (Jim) Adelsen, Laura (Aaron) Wallander, Aaron (Samantha) Johnson, Sarah Petersen and Jennifer Petersen. She is further survived by great grandchildren, Avalyn and Brynlee Adelsen, Isaac and Grant Wallander along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friend Lorraine Doperalski. Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1999, daughter, Louise Margaret in 1954; brothers, Clarence, Ernest and Viggo. Funeral services will be held at Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 2000 W. Sixth St. on Wednesday, July 2, 20124 at 6 p.m. There will be a time for family and friends to meet at the church on Wednesday before services from 3:30 p.m. until time of service at 6 p.m. Ellen will be laid to rest next to husband and daughter on Thursday at Graceland Cemetery at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Ellen in a special way may direct memorials to Holy Communion Lutheran Church Sunday School or to Gideon International.
