Hardie O. Blackwell RACINE- Hardie O. Blackwell, daughter of the late William and Olivia (Coleman) Johnson was born in Quitman, Mississippi on September 5, 1928. Hardie left Mississippi at an early age to establish a life on her own. She resided in Chicago for several years, where she gave birth to her only child, Rufus Johnson. Hardie then moved to Racine, Wisconsin. There she met and united in marriage with Lethon Blackwell on March 29, 1958... They were married for 23 years until he passed away on January 10, 1981. She was employed at High Ridge County Healthcare from 1969 to 1983, retiring in May of 1983. Hardie was a devoted Christian who professed her belief in Christ at an early age. She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Racine, Wisconsin until returning to Gulfport, Mississippi to care for her father. After caring for her father she relocated back to Gulfport. There she became a member of Riley Chapel. Hardie was called home on Friday, July 11, 2014 from the comforts of her son’s (Rufus Johnson) home. She was a devoted wife; a loving and nurturing mom; and a warm and caring friend. She was often referred to as Mom and she will be missed by many. Hardie leaves to cherish her memory, one son and daughter-in-law, Mr. Rufus (Sylvia) Johnson of Ontario, California; one granddaughter, Mrs. Leslie (Jerome) Saxton of Ontario, California; one great granddaughter, Lyric Ware of Ontario, California; a brother, Clarence Bland of Racine, Wisconsin; a brother and sister-in law, James (Ora) Bland of Racine, Wisconsin; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Geraldine Price of Racine, Wisconsin; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Bernice Mitchell of Gaston, Alabama; and a host of close relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her grandson (Randall S. Johnson), and very special friend Mr. Eli Lockridge. Her Homegoing Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 11th and Center, on Friday, July 18th, with Bishop L. L. Kirby officiating. Visitation will be in the church on Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Entombment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park.
