BURLINGTON - Joan L. Ebbers, age 88, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Aurora Memorial Hospital. She was born April 12, 1926 to Albert and Anna (nee Yanny) Ebbers in Burlington. Joan was a lifelong resident of Burlington. She was a graduate of St. Mary Grade School and St. Mary High School. Following high school she worked as an administrative assistant at Burlington Mills, Murphy Products, Hi-Liter and Rewald Electric. Joan was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church; she sang in the choir, volunteered at the Hospital and volunteered serving lunch, at the grade school. Joan loved to travel both in the U.S and Europe. She especially enjoyed traveling with her friend Betty Zwiebel to Laughlin Nevada. Joan enjoyed playing bingo and was an avid reader. Joan is survived by her sisters Helen Henning and Carol Wermeling, sisters-in-law Joanne Ebbers and Joann Ebbers, and by her 28 nieces, nephews and many great and great -great nieces and nephews that knew her as “Aunt Joan #1”. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings; Fred (Margaret) Ebbers, Dorothy (Jim) Slein, William Ebbers, Jim Ebbers, brothers -in-law Larry Henning and Bill Wermeling, nephews Mike Slein and Joe Ebbers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 28, 2014 at 10:00AM at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Jim Volkert officiating. Burial will follow the service in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Sunday, July 27, 2014 from 3:00PM until 6:00PM at the Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home. Memorials for Joan may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
