KANSASVILLE - Donald R. Ratz Sr., 60, passed away Monday, December 14, 2009, at the VA Medical Center in Milwaukee after a heroic battle with cancer. He was born August 25, 1949, in Racine, to Hilbert and Delores (nee: Peterson) Ratz. Don and his former wife, Tina Ludwin, raised two children together. He worked at WSI for 17 years, most recently as a Supervisor. Don was a proud member of the Marine Corps, serving in Vietnam from 1968 until 1972, achieving the rank of Corporal. He was a member of the American Legion Post #171 in Union Grove. For years, he served his fellow members as a fun-loving Bartender and as Secretary for a time. Woodworking was a passion for Don and he also enjoyed working with computers. A loving father and grandfather, Don is survived by his three children, Donald Jr. (Roxanne), David (Ashly), and Dawn Carey-Zapp; his seven grandchildren, Donovan, Zach, Anthony, Hunter, Cody, Zoe, and Jacqueline. Don is further survived by his mother, Delores Ratz; and his seven siblings, Dennis (Anita) Ratz, Ronald Ratz, Jan (Jerry) Litwin, Randy (Chris) Ratz, Bob (Diane) Ratz, Penny (Wayne) Robinson, and Ruth Lile. Don was preceded in death by his father, Hilbert Ratz. A visitation for Don will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2009, from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Miller-Reesman Funeral Home. A Memorial service with full Military Honors will be held at the Southeastern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery on Friday, December 18, 2009, at 12 noon with burial immediately following.
