ROCKFORD, TENN. - Joan Marie Bratz, 54, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2011, at her parents' home in Kansasville. She was born on September 4, 1956, to Earl 'Bub' and Fay (nee: Schoen) Bratz at Burlington Memorial Hospital. Joan attended Burlington High School and later graduated from the University of California - San Bernardino with a Degree in Accounting. She then started her career with Marriott Hotels that lasted 20-plus years. Joan was married to John Henry Thompson on October 12, 1990, in Palm Springs, Calif. She had one daughter, Amy Ruth Thompson, who is a recent graduate of Iowa State University. The three of them lived in various places throughout Joan's life, such as California, Tennessee, and Colorado. Joan enjoyed her job as a Fixed Asset Analyst with Marriott Hotels. She loved to travel and had visited about 40 states. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling around the United States and visiting National Parks. She also enjoyed shopping, antiquing, and attending auctions. Joan was a Midwesterner through and through. She loved the farm; the Racine County Fair; and most of all, her family. Joan is survived by her mother, Fay; her husband, John; and her daughter, Amy. Her brothers and sisters were with her until the end, Eugene (Linda) Bratz, Dale (Judy) Bratz, Evelyn (Dwayne) Evans, Ruth Bratz, Mary Ann Bratz, Lynn (Dale) Noble, Lori (Gary Hummelt) Bratz, Eleanor (Jeff) Adams, and Gloria (Martin) Ramirez. Her nieces, nephews, and her best friend, Nancy Gruber, were also by her bedside. She was preceded in death by her father, Earl 'Bub'. Funeral services will be held at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at 7 p.m. with Chaplain Larry Williams officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A private burial will take place at Rosewood Cemetery on Thursday, June 30, 2011. The family has suggested that memorials be made to Ann's Hope Walk or Heartland Hospice.
