MOUNTAIN - James H. Way, Age 78, of Mountain, Wisc., formerly of Burlington and Spring Prairie, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2011 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in Union Grove. James was born February 6, 1933 in Madison, to the late Harry F. and Eleanor S. (Paulson) Way. He spent his early life in Burlington and was a graduate of Burlington High School. James proudly served in the United States Army as a Paratrooper from 1953 until 1955. On December 17, 1955 at Rochester Congregational Church, James was united in marriage to LuAnn V. Dickinson. Following marriage they resided in Rochester before moving to Burlington in 1959. James and LuAnn loved going "up north" and in 2002 they retired to Mountain, Wisc. James had worked for JW Peters until 1978 and Dean Foods until retirement. He enjoyed serving as a volunteer Fireman for the City of Burlington Fire Department for almost 20 years. He served as the Assistant Fire Chief for part of that time and Captain prior to that of Hose Company #1. James was an avid bowler, golfer and baseball player, as well as being a diehard Packer Fan for all his life. He was a member of Spring Prairie United Methodist Church, serving as usher, bell ringer and on the Pastor/Parish Committee. James also enjoyed helping with church suppers as well as other church activities. Survivors include his loving wife, LuAnn Way, their children, Michael (Sandra) Way of Rosholt, Kristine (Michael) Tolzmann of Davie, Fla., Jeffrey (Kristine) Way of Honey Creek and Julie (Kurt) Bauman of West Palm Beach, Fla., grandchildren, Michael Way of Wind Lake, Timothy Way of Green Bay, Katelyn Way of Rosholt, Matthew, Sean and Jenna Tolzmann all of Davie, Fla., Lauren Way of Honey Creek and KJ and Emily Bauman of West Palm Beach, Fla., sister, June Doomis of Racine, sisters-in-law, Maralee Schneider of Calif., Nancy Dickinson of N.Y., Carol Griebel of Burlington and Virginia Dickinson-Price, of Colo., and by a brother-in-law, Phil Griebel. James is also survived by many loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Eleanor Way, in-laws, Perry and Lillian Dickinson, brothers-in-law, Raymond Doomis, Wayne (Whitey) Dickinson and Robert Schneider and by granddaughters, Amanda Way and Angela Tolzmann. Funeral services will be held on Thursday September 15th at Spring Prairie United Methodist Church, on Hwy. 11, west of Burlington. Visitation 4-7 pm immediately followed by service at 7pm. Memorials have been suggested to the City of Burlington Volunteer Fire Department, Spring Prairie United Methodist Church and to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
