RACINE - Ruben Johannas Svendsen, 92, passed away in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Monday, January 21, 2013. Ruben was born in Superior, Nebraska on August 29, 1920, the son of the late Marius Svendsen and Marie (nee: Gregersen) Svendsen. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Marie Winther on February 1, 1947. Ruben proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He co-owned Svendsen Brothers Construction, Inc. in Racine for over 30 years. Ruben was a longtime member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. He enjoyed family, friends, football, baseball, musical concerts and travel. Ruben is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Julie (Alan) Harris, granddaughters; Emily Harris (Dustin Gonzales) and Meghan (Alex) Kofoed, all of Minneapolis, Minn., son-in-law, Edward Koch of San Diego, Calif.; brothers; Raymond (Margaret) Svendsen, Alvin Svendsen and Vernon (Willean) Svendsen. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Ruben was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn on August 30, 2007, one daughter, Joan Koch, brothers; Viggo and Einer Svendsen, and sisters; Anina Jacobsen and Edith Juul. . Funeral services will be held at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 322 Ohio Street, on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 11:30 a.m., with Rev. James Barsch officiating. Ruben will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held at church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Ruben in a special way may direct memorials to Childrens Home Society in St. Paul Minnesota or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons Research.
