RACINE - Frank Cordova Velasquez, 80, affectionately known as KIKO, received the promise of eternal life on Monday, April 15, 2013, after a sudden battle with cancer. He was born in San Antonio, TX, on October 10, 1932, son of the late Benigno and Juanita (nee: Cordova) Velasquez. Frank was united in marriage to the love of his life, Consuelo Quiroz, on September 20, 1952. Frank proudly and faithfully served in the United States Army during the Korean War. During his service, he received the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal (with one bronze star), Distinguished Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He was a welder for JI Case until his retirement after 38 years. Frank lived a very happy and fruitful life. He was an avid bowler and pool player while also being the #1 wrestling fan of his sons. Above all, Frank adored his entire family and cherished the time he spent with all of them. He will be dearly missed. Frank leaves to cherish is memory, his wife of 61 years, Consuelo Velasquez; children, Frank (Kim) Velasquez, Gilbert Velasquez, Mario (Addie Strong) Velasquez, Antonio (Zena Himebauch) Velasquez, Linda (John R. Spears) Dunkerly, Benigno Velasquez, Virginia (Donald Hinton) Salazar, Victoria (Robert Falbo) Velasquez, Ravi (Julie) Velasquez, Leonardo (Lisa) Velasquez; sister, Josephine Zertuchi; 20 grandchildren; 96 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and many other dear relatives and friends too numerous to mention. Frank is preceded in death by his parents, Benigno and Juanita Velasquez; daughter, Diana Velasquez; and sister, Alvira Munoz. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 18, 2013, 11:00am, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1100 Erie Street, with Rev. Anthony Thomas officiating. Visitation will be at Draeger-Langendorf Funeral Home and Crematory, 4600 County Line Road, on Wednesday, April 17, 5:00pm until 8:00pm with a Rosary Service at 7:00pm. Visitation will continue in the church on Thursday from 10:00am until the time of the service. Burial will follow services on Thursday at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Dover. Memorials have been suggested to Leonard Velasquez for a memorial to be established at a later date.
