Lyman M. Larson
November 5, 1932 - January 12, 2018
RACINE - Lyman M. Larson, 85, of Racine, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, Friday, January 12, 2018 at Ascension All Saints.
He was born on November 5, 1932 to the late Henry and Mae (Kins) Larson in Mondovi, WI. He grew up and attended rural schools until the 8th grade when he left to work and help support the family. In the 1940's he moved to Racine to pursue factory employment at Massey Ferguson and later American Motors/Chrysler.
On September 20, 1952 he married LaVerne Trudeau at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Racine. They had five children and were married for 53 years. Lyman and his wife became snowbirds after retirement and wintered in Bay Minette, AL. LaVerne preceded him in death on June 9, 2006. Lyman worked hard to provide for his family. On the side Lyman enjoyed the work of flipping houses long before it was popular. He was especially proud of the A frame cabin he and the family built in Tipler Wisconsin. He worked for AMC/Chrysler for over 30 years, retiring as an inspector in 1989. He was a member of Local UAW #72.
Lyman was a long-time member of Bethania Lutheran Church in Racine. He loved singing and enjoyed being the pastor's sermon buddy.
Country music, taking a drive, going to auctions, sharing a good joke, and playing a fierce game of cards were some of Lyman's favorite past times. He always had a jig-saw puzzle ready when you visited him. In his younger days he played in the Western Troubadours band in the Racine area.
Lyman is survived by his children Sandra (Jerry) Loesel of Coloma, WI, Martin Larson of Fox Lake, WI, Cathryn (William) Barnes of Rochester, WI, Susan (Leo) Juzenas of Union Grove and Margaret "Peggy" (Steve) Nelson of Kenosha, his grandchildren Benjamin, Janice, Rebecca, Cammy, Kyle, Kathryn, Lexie, Nicholas, Nathan, Stacey, Kevin, Henry and Sophie, his 13 great grandchildren with one on the way, his one great great grandchild, his sister Carol Erickson of Eleva, WI and his sisters-in-law Shirley Larson of Mondovi, Betty Larson of Racine and Janice Larson of Wisconsin Dells.
Funeral Services for Lyman will be held on Thursday, January 18th at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) at Bethania Lutheran Church (4120 Wright Ave. Racine). Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
In addition to his wife LaVerne he is preceded in death by his sister Doris Knecht, his brothers William, Donald and Robert Larson and his brothers-in-law Chester Knecht and Archie Erickson.
The family wishes to thank the nursing staff on 2C at Ascension All Saints, Dr. Robert Gerber and Grace Hospice for their compassionate care during his final days. We also appreciate the staff at The Woods of Caledonia and St. Monica's Senior Living where he resided. Special thanks to his home health aide Alex Moran for the care and kindness shown to Lyman when he lived at home.
