Anne Scigliano Obituary

KENNEBUNK - Anne Marie (Ridley) Scigliano, 81, passed away on Monday, Nov. 20, 2017, at Huntington Common in Kennebunk.

She was born in Topsham on Jan. 13, 1936, a daughter of Elmer and Mathilda (Dennis) Ridley.

Anne graduated from Thornton Academy and from Bates College, Class of 1958. After graduation, she taught high school English in New Britain, Connecticut for two years. She later taught high school English in Melrose, Massachusetts while earning her Master's Degree from Boston College in 1965.

On July 27, 1963, she married her husband Francis Peter Scigliano. In 1969, Anne became the first woman editor for the Lexington Minuteman Newspaper. Anne was an award winning reporter and editor with many notable interviews. She addressed many public relation issues and other news events that heard the voices of women and interesting news events to the heart beat of Lexington.

Anne later wanted to broaden her horizons and took the position of Director of Community Relations with Symmes Hospital in Arlington, Massachusetts. Her love of the community made her the ideal choice for this delicate position.

In 1984, she was appointed as Vice President for Community Relations at Choate Symmes Health Services, Inc., a multi-facility health care system and in 1989 went on to become Director of Public Relations for the Winchester Hospital.

In 1995, Anne and her husband retired to the Caribbean. She spent her time gardening, cooking, golfing, and boating. She had a love for dogs and tried to find homes for any that needed adopting. She also volunteered for the St. Croix elementary school, Holy Cross Catholic Church and the St. Croix Yacht Club, always keeping busy with any challenge or need that arose.

She was predeceased by her husband Francis Peter Scigliano.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Barbara (Scigliano) Jellison; eight nieces and nephews, Debra (Ridley) Dalton; Lori (Ridley) Lodge; Penelope (Ridley) Labbe; Mary-Lou (Ridley) Boucouvalas; David Jellison, Dina Jellison, Douglas Jellison, and Diana (Jellison) Montellano and several grandnieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the Bradford Court staff at Huntington Common for their professional and endearing care of Anne for the last several years. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to A Place To Start (Hope, Help and Guidance for families with Alzheimers), 41 Main Street, Unit 2, Kennebunk, Maine 04043.

A visiting hour will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 27,  2017, with a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, 87 James St., Saco. Burial will be on Tuesday in Westview Cemetery in Lexington, Massachusetts.
