Bortolotti, Alfred W. Age 94, of Marshfield, formerly of Milwaukee, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2013 in Marshfield. A visitation will be held Monday, August 5, 2013, from 4:00 to 7:00PM at the Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home, in Marshfield. A prayer service will be held 11:00AM Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Milwaukee. A visitation will be held from 10:00AM until the time of services. Alfred was born August 6, 1918 to Silvio and Mary (Bonelli) Bortolotti, in Milwaukee. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Milwaukee. Alfred proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1944 with the 2nd Armored Division in North Africa and Sicily. While serving in Sicily Alfred was wounded and received the Purple Heart. After his honorable discharge Alfred and Mary Spinelli were joined in marriage on June 9, 1945 in Milwaukee. He worked as a field engineer for the Metropolitan Sewerage District for the City of Milwaukee from 1955 until his retirement in 1980. Alfred and Mary moved to Marshfield in 1988. In his retirement Alfred was an avid reader with a penchant for western novels or whatever else caught his eye in his frequent visits to the public library. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors which was evident in his love of fishing and watching wildlife whenever possible. Most of all he was proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alfred is survived by his children: Richard (Jennifer) Bortolotti of Port Washington and Mary Jane (Mark) Swanson of Marshfield; his grandchildren: Jessica Bortolotti-Johnstone, Scott Swanson, Eric Swanson, Vince Bortolotti, Andrew Bortolotti, and Joseph Bortolotti; and his great grandchildren: Vito and Nicolo Bortolotti-Aschenbrenner; and many nieces and nephews. Alfred is preceded in death by his parents, his step-father Bert Ramazini, his beloved wife, Mary, and his brother, Rudolph Bortolotti. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the "Never Forgotten Honor Flight" in Wausau (P.O. Box 5056, Wausau, WI 54402-5056) or the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, LA (945 Magazine Street, New Orleans, LA 70130). The Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Peter and I still can't believe Freddie won't be playing hearts with us next March. We will miss his smile and quick humor. Our love goes out to you and your family. We continue to keep him in our prayers.

Mary Jane, I am so very sorry to hear that Fred passed. I'm so use to seeing him spry and shopping at festival. I didn't realize he was not well. I have very fond memories of him and always will. Take Care Love You, Carmen
