Grosse, Ruth Louise
Grosse, Ruth Louise West Bend, WI (Nee Olson ) age 89 plus 3, "checked out" (her words) peacefully on the evening of May 15, 2015, at the Aurora Hospital in Green Bay where she has been a patient since Monday, the 11th. She was born in Waukesha, WI on February 1, 1923 becoming the daughter of Axel and Julia Olson. She was soon joined by her sister, Evie Olson, who has since passed, and survived by her brother, Alfred (Carol) Olson who resides in Alexandria, VA. She is also survived by her good friend, Bill Martin and his sister Sue, special friend Ray, and her dog Lizzie. Her dog Honey preceded her in passing as did her husband Richard. Her three nieces, Lynn Olson (Tim), Lori (Dan) Beaton, Lisa (Dean) Bolt, and nephew Steve (Nola) Olson were special to her as were their children, her 11 great-nieces and nephews. Also those who had a special place in her heart were Bonnie and brother Tony, and Pat and Deb Bohn (Bits & Pieces Floral), and the "lawn boys" Jim and Jerry Schmidt. While still at home, there were several caregivers, but there were three special ones; Sharon Butch, Chris Clavette and Robin. Due to Ruth's long life, she had so many friends, kind neighbors and acquaintances, we hope you will understand if not all are named. Ruth lived many years at the Timber Lodge Hotel on Lake Julia in Rhinelander, WI helping her family operate the family hotel and supper club; she soon ventured to Milwaukee, WI to work for the Internal Revenue Service. It was there that she met her husband, Richard Grosse; they married on August 7, 1965 in Milwaukee. Bobby Grosse, Ruth's stepson, and his mother, Evelyn, age 98 still survives. Ruth loved to travel. She and Dick mostly loved visiting Germany and Nicaragua where they made many friends. Her love of baking and cooking was a special gift, which she handed down to her nieces. In her younger years she loved to fly planes and most memorable was the Gulf Air Tour on January 1947 when she flew from Waukesha, Wisconsin to Miami, Florida with her young flier friends, Elaine Bromley, Sally Lathrop, and Rosemarie Sponner. Ruth also loved dancing, flowers, good wine, and to listen to her German music on her Bose stereo. Ruth's life was devoted to caring and giving. In November 2013 she and Lizzie moved from West Bend to Green Bay to the Carrington Manor where she learned her favorite pastime--Bingo, which she became quite good at, and met her special friend, Ray. They enjoyed old movies and Culvers together. A celebration of Ruth's life will be on Saturday, May 23rd, 2015 at the WISCONSIN MEMORIAL PARK - Chapel of the Flowers, 13235 West Capitol Drive, Brookfield, at 3:00 PM, with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. A special thank you to the doctors and nurses in ICU at Aurora Hospital for their excellent care of Ruth. Another thank you to the staff at Carrington Manor for their wonderful care and for making her last year and a half of life a happy time for her.
