Degenhardt, Albert M. Age 88, passed away April 16, 2013, at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center surrounded with the love of his family. Albert was born in Loyal, WI on August 1, 1924 to the late Frank and Gertrude (nee Vogel) Degenhardt. On February 19, 1949 in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Loyal WI, he was united in marriage with the love of his life, Dorothy Beaver, who preceded him in death on June 6, 2001. Albert enlisted in the Army
in January 1943 to defend the United States in World War II
and became a member of the 100th Infantry Division. His Division saw action in Northeastern France and Western Germany and liberated or captured over 400 towns including Bitche France, after which they were fondly named the Sons of Bitche. They also repelled the last major German offensive on the Western Front. Albert was employed by Lakeside Bridge and Steel for 35 years. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Among his interests, he and Dorothy enjoyed attending functions at the Eagles Club and Southside Old Time Settlers Club. He was very handy and could fix just about anything in the home. He loved spending time with his family celebrating Holidays, playing cribbage and Sheepshead, attending Brewer games, making annual trips to the lakefront for the fireworks, to Buffalo City on the Mississippi for vacation and to Loyal for the Corn Festival. Surviving are his children Douglas, Dennis (Linda), Diane (John) Oakland, David (Doreen), Donna (Tom) Poehlmann, Doreen Horner, 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; brothers Kenny and Harvey (Bonnie); sisters Susie Kohlnhofer, Darlene Klann, Nancy Schmidt and sister-in-law Kathy Degenhardt, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Albert was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald, a sister-in-law Lois, and brothers-in-law Bob Klann, Joe Kohlnhofer and Dick Schmidt. Visitation Thursday, April 18 at the Funeral Home 4 - 7PM with vigil service at 7PM. Mass of Christian Burial Friday April 19 at St. John the Evangelist Church (please meet at church) (8500 W. Coldspring Rd.) at 10AM. Visitation also on Monday, April 22 at St. Anthony Catholic Church (407 N. Division St., Loyal, WI) 10:30 AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM. Interment St. Anthony Cemetery (Loyal, WI). In memory of Albert, memorials to Fisher House Foundation, Inc., housing families of hospitalized veterans at Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center appreciated.
