Colleen Smith

Smith, Colleen (Nee Donahue ) Loving wife, proud mother, dynamic businesswoman and God's faithful servant, Colleen Smith of Brookfield was born into the emerald isle of eternal life on April 24th at age 51. But right up until that very moment, Colleen lived. Oh, how she lived! She centered her life on God and family, and cherished each moment with her best friend, and husband of 29 years, Dan, and her remarkable sons Mark and Greg. Colleen's award-winning marketing and public relations company, Emerald Isle, was a natural extension of her Catholic faith and her Irish heritage. The clients were sometimes dressed in vestments, and there was always cold Guinness in the staff room fridge. Her work ethic was exhausting; her expectation was perfection; her goal was to "over-deliver." And the firm's annual New Year's card included a countdown to St. Patty's Day. Colleen was a dedicated servant at St. John Vianney Parish: Parish council member, committee chair, tireless volunteer and creator of the enormously successful Summer Service Series, a unique outreach opportunity for families. The eldest child of Patricia and Tom Donahue, Colleen was born in Butler, WI, attended St. Agnes Grade School, Pius High School ('80), and earned her Journalism degree from Marquette University ('84), and her MBA from Cardinal Stritch University ('92). Colleen's career began at WTMJ in Milwaukee; she worked as a reporter for The Daily Oklahoman, as a public relations director for the Oklahoma City Public Schools and for the Minneapolis Grain Exchange, before founding her own company. Colleen is survived by Dan, Mark and Greg, and her father Thomas Donahue of Wauwatosa. Cherished sister of Kathleen (Michael) Schmainda of Elm Grove; Thomas (Tammy) Donahue of Brookfield; and Sharon (Bob) Hudy of West Allis. Dear daughter-in-law of Dorothy and Gene Smith of Iron Mountain, MI, and sister-in-law of Lawrence (Cheryl) Smith of Iron Mountain, Teri (Phillip) Dougherty of Waukesha, and Joseph Smith of Iron Mountain. Amazing aunt to 14 nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her beloved mother Patricia Donahue. There will be no funeral visitation, but please join us for a celebration of Colleen's life. Friday, May 2nd. St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 1755 N. Calhoun Road, Brookfield. 2:30 Rosary. 3:00 Mass of Christian Burial. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Colleen's name to Saint Francis de Sales Seminary. "God's plan is unimaginably perfect." - Colleen Smith
