Chortek, Doris (Nee Hersh ) March 29, 2014, age 89 years, of Milwaukee. Predeceased by her parents, Attoney Emil and Mary A. Hersh; her husband Samuel K. Chortek; her aunt, Betty Arnovitz of Marinette, WI, her brothers, Attorney Frederick Hersh and Attorney Robert L. Hersh. Survived by many loving relatives including her sisters-in-law Sandra (the late Robert) Hersh and Sharon (the late Bernard) Chortek, Elaine (the late Peter) Chortek of San Diego, CA, and brother-in-law Irving Chortek. Special nephews, Thomas (Patti) Barkin, Eugene, OR and Robert (Cathy) Barkin, Bethesda, MD; her grandchildren Michael, Emily and Lena Barkin, Melissa (David) Scheinfeld. Nephews and nieces, Nancy (Yale) Freiman, Patty (Dr. Ray) Fedderly, Attorney Leonard Hersh, Laura (Morris) Weisman, Susan (Andrew Appel) Hersh, Susan (Lee) Ullman, Steven (Erin) Chortek, Susan (Eric) Weisman, Robert (Kim) Chortek, Richard Perelman, Bruce (Janis) Perelman, Peter Hersh, Eric (Linda) Hersh, Sara Chapman of Boulder, CO, Mark Hersh of Stockholm, Sweden and many other beloved family and friends. A graduate of Shorewood High School and Northwestern University
, she earned a Master's Degree from Marquette University in Speech and Drama. A highly respected community leader and activist, Chortek served on numerous boards as a chair or officer, and her leadership benefited more than 50 nonprofit organizations. Funeral services 1:30 PM Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Congregation Emanu-El B'ne Jeshurun, 2020 W. Brown Deer Rd., River Hills. Interment Spring Hill Cemetery, 166 S. Hawley Ct., Milwaukee.
