Palmer, Dorothy A. Rev. Dorothy Ann Palmer, age 66, of Milwaukee, passed away August 11, 2013 in Deerfield, IL after a long battle with breast cancer
. Preceded in death by parents Robert and Dorothy (Wild) Palmer of Hammond, IN. Survived by sister Mary Gardner, brother-in-law Mark Gardner and nephew Wyatt Gardner; uncle Wallace Henderson (late Violet Wild Henderson); aunt Mary Ann Wild (late William Wild); and many extended family, friends, colleagues and congregation members. Born in Hammond, IN, she graduated Hammond High School 1964 and was a piano student of Chicago Conservatory of Music. Dorothy received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Education from Indiana University
and Master of Divinity from Chicago Theological Seminary. She taught in Hammond, IN public schools for 16 years. After seminary, Dorothy trained in hospital chaplaincy at Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, IL. Ordained into the ministry at Immanuel United Church of Christ (UCC), Highland, IN, she served many churches: Peace UCC, Merrillville, IN; St. Paul UCC, LaPorte, IN; Immanuel UCC, Highland, IN; First Congregational UCC, Platteville, WI; Mt. Zion UCC, Cornelia, WI; Zion UCC, Milwaukee, WI; Congregational UCC, Edgerton, WI; Immanuel Reformed UCC, Wauwatosa, WI; and Faith UCC, Milwaukee, WI. Funeral service was August 24, 2013 at Immanuel UCC, Highland, IN, with interment at Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond, IN. Memorial Service will be September 8, 2013 at Bethel-Bethany United Church of Christ, 2866 N. 54th St., Milwaukee, WI 53210. Family will receive guests starting 12:30PM followed by service at 1:30PM.
