Luedeman, Elaine "Johnnie" (Nee Johnson ) Peacefully passed away on February 23, 2014, at the age of 88. Longtime resident of Fox Point. Best friend and beloved wife for 64 years of the late Harold J. "Stretch" Luedeman. Loving mother of Christine Fenner of Waukesha, WI, Gayle (Al) Hall of Germantown, MD, James of Dallas, TX and Mark (Carol J.) Luedeman of Hudson Valley, NY. Proud grandmother of Kate and Charlie Fenner, and June Luedeman. Further survived by other relatives and many good friends. Johnnie was born on August 15, 1925 in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of Grace and Albin Johnson. She lived in suburban Lakewood until the family moved to Wilmette, IL in 1939. Johnnie attended New Trier High School and in her senior year was encouraged by her advisor to enter an academic competition at Lawrence College. Her paper in French tied for the "Grand Prize of $200 for the Best Paper in Any Field". The amount constituted one fourth of tuition cost and assured a year at College. Three more years followed and graduation in the Centennial Class in 1947 began many years of strong support for Lawrence. She served two terms on the Alumni Board in the 1980's. Johnnie kept her college nickname to reflect her pride in her Swedish "Johnson" heritage. She enjoyed being a homemaker and being involved with activities that related to her children; PTA officer, room mother, Girl Scouts, and school library aide. Johnnie had a lifetime of volunteering; chairing the Bayside and then North Shore Cancer Crusade, delivering Mobile Meals for 30 years, working with the special people at Goodwill Industries (crafts and computer) for 14 years and volunteering for 4 years each at the Penfield and St. Francis Children's Centers. Johnnie's greatest volunteer enjoyment was with the fund-raising for philanthropies promoted by Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She was a 65 plus year member of Theta and considered its members the "sisters" she never had. For over 40 years Johnnie was very involved at Fox Point Lutheran Church. She was president of the Women's Group. Luncheon chairman, Sunday school teacher for 12 years and on the Altar Guild for 20 years. Johnnie enjoyed her brief time living at Tudor Oaks in Muskego. The family would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you for the loving care provided by Comfort Keepers and the Hometown Hospice and her former caregivers from the Visiting Angels. Visitation will take place on Friday, February 28, from 10:00 to 11:30 AM at Fox Point Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7510 N. Santa Monica Blvd., Fox Point, followed by a service honoring Johnnie's life at 11:30 AM. Pastor D. William Knapp officiating. Interment at Wisconsin Memorial Park Cemetery will be private for the family. In lieu of flowers, please give to a cause dear to your heart, or Fox Point Lutheran Church or the Harold and Elaine Luedeman Scholarship Fund at Lawrence University, 711 East Boldt Way, SPC18, Appleton, WI 54911.
