Dr. Henry J. Wisniewski

Wisniewski, Henry J., Dr. Born to Eternal Life Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the age of 92. Beloved husband of the late Helen (Nee Freinik) for 57 yrs. Loving father of Thomas (the late Sandra) and Gerald (Barbara). Grandfather of Paul, John (Ferah), Lori (Joshua) Marso, Patricia and Kristin (Douglas) Jansky. Great-grandfather of Eleanor, Elizabeth, Madeline, Cooper, Trevor and the late Grace. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dr. Wisniewski is an alumnus from Pio Nono High School (1943), Marquette University (1948) and University of Michigan Medical School (1953). He is a veteran of the US Navy and Marine Corps serving 1941-1946. In 1953, he established the virus lab for the City of Milwaukee, and from 1953-1963 served as the Chief Virologist. From 1963-1988 he was the Director of Laboratories for the Milwaukee Health Department. Dr. Wisniewski was named a charter member of the WHO study of influenza. In 1958, he was recognized as an expert of viral diseases by that group. He was a Diplomat and Fellow for the American Board of Medical Microbiology. He received a Marquette University Presidential Appointment to the Advisory Board of the Biology Department. He represented the US as an expert on influenza in a fact finding mission to China in 1991. Dr. Wisniewski was the President of the Optimist Club of Milwaukee and Friends of Youth Foundation. He was a member of Cudworth Post-American Legion as well as Rivermoor Country Club. Visitation Monday, May 5 at the funeral home from 4-8 PM, with a Prayer Vigil at 7 PM. Visitation will also be held Tuesday at 9:30 AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 2733 W. Euclid Ave., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM. Entombment St. Adalbert Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if desired, memorials to the Veteran's Honor Flight or the Optimist Club of Milwaukee are suggested.
