Schmit, Josephine "Josie" Found peace and reunited with her loving husband, Arthur Schmit, at the age of 103 on Monday, March 31, 2014. Josie was a loving and devoted mother to her only daughter Carol (Roth). Her four grandchildren were blessed to grow up living next door to their beloved Grandma. She was also very proud of her great-grandchildren who brought much joy to her life. Josie was born in 1910 and raised on Milwaukee's east side in a large family with seven siblings including her twin sister, Annie. Josephine had a passion for living life to its fullest. She was a very proud and independent woman working in various jobs and endeavors throughout her life and was ahead of her time in this respect and worked well into her 80's. Josie was not content with idle time and was always pursuing creative hobbies, such as macramé and ceramics. She loved to cook and play marathon card games with family and friends and was most at home in social situations and enjoyed the love and attention from her many admirers. Josie was one of the oldest to join the Elks Lodge
and loved to bowl, play cards, and socialize with members for many happy years. She moved to Alexian Village in her later years where she entertained the residents and staff with her dancing, piano playing, and wonderful sense of humor. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Alexian Village for the wonderful care given to Josie in her final years. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 3, from 10AM until Celebration of Life at 12 NOON, at ALEXIAN VILLAGE-CHAPEL OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, 9301 N. 76th St., Milwaukee. Interment at ST. CATHERINE CEMETERY. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Alexian Village in Josephine's name appreciated.
