Sprenger, L. Ruth L. Ruth Sprenger died peacefully at home, on February 11, 2014, at the age of 88. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Ruth grew up in Chicago, IL and graduated from Immaculata High School. She went on to MacMurray College in Jacksonville, IL and graduated in 1945 with a B.A. in Home Economics. After graduating college, Ruth taught high school English and Home Economics and was an active horsewoman as in her college days. In 1948 Ruth moved to Wauwatosa, WI after marrying Roland Sprenger, her late husband of 65 years. They met on a blind date, she the vivacious and sparkling lady, he the handsome Navy captain and enterprising entrepreneur. She jumped into the community and became actively involved with the Wauwatosa Jr. Women's Club and her couples group at church, while raising their two children, Bruce and Diane. She remained an active participant in church and community activities throughout her life. Ruth loved to bake, cook and entertain, which made parties for both family and friends well attended--since you were guaranteed not only a glimpse into Ruth's love of life but also a really tasty meal. She also enjoyed making "an event" out of every gathering, reflecting the joy Ruth took from making a social occasion into something special. In 1972, she jumped back into her passion, horse back riding, which was first honed during summers with her parents in Sayner, WI. Ruth often rode 5 days a week at Ross Drake Stables in Hartland, WI. She took special pleasure when trail riding her beloved Spanky and showing her horses. Ruth loved being in the show ring competing with American Saddle Bred 3- and 5-gaited and pleasure horses and became a regular at shows in Wisconsin, Kentucky and Iowa. She eventually moved out of the saddle and into the cart, driving her Hackney ponies. Rollie was the trusted video recorder at every show, quietly narrating each pass around the ring. Ruth will be most remembered for her enduring love of and devotion to Rollie and their children and grandchildren, her "silliness" that could spice-up any conversation and her "cooking tips and recipes," which she gladly shared with her friends and caregivers, always guiding them to include "that extra ingredient or step" that never seemed to be written on the recipe card. She followed Rollie's interests, whether it be his love of boating or entertaining friends at the farm that they enjoyed near Randolph, WI. She is survived by a son, Bruce (Kathy); a daughter, Diane (Terry): two grandchildren, Jason (Georgia) and Allison (Stephen); and her caring, loving and devoted caregivers. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 13, from 2:00 PM until time of service at 4:00 PM at Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home in Wauwatosa, WI. Private entombment will take place at Wisconsin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent in Ruth Sprenger's memory to The American Saddle Bred Horse Association, 4083 Iron Works Parkway, Lexington, KY 40511 or to the First Congregational Church of Wauwatosa, 1511 Church St., Wauwatosa, WI 53213.
