I worked with Al back in 1970 when I was fresh out of high school and was a clerk in the Youth Aid Bureau and a member of the MPD Police Band. Elmer took pictures at our wedding and to this day, I often wondered what happened to him. It's a shame I found out too late. I loved Al, he was so much fun. When you are only 18 and being in an environment like MPD, it's pretty scarey. But Elmer made everything fun and taught me not to take people so seriously and not fret the small stuff. I worked with a lot of officers from MPD over the years and remember only a handful of them, but Elmer is one who definitely left an impression on me, now a 60 year old grandmother herself. I'm sorry for your loss but you can be proud of him and for what he stood for. He was a good man!

Al, my Dixieland friend, added musical highlights to our exchange teaching year in Eagle River, Wisconsin 1991-92. He introduced me to the Rhinelander Concert Band. Al, Dave Anderson and I took turns driving to band rehearsals each Monday night from Phelps/Eagle River. Coffee and specialty desserts always followed the night-out with co-band members. Our first trip to Iron River was a highlight as band members rode on a flatbed during the July 4th parade. Muskie fishing and fly fishing were memorable times with Al. During our return summer trips, Al entertained us as he shared his vast video collection, favourite television concerts and performances by renown jazz musicians. Al and Mita ofte introduced us to exceptional restaurants in nearby rural areas. Our sincere condolences to Al's extended family and to Mita.
Sincerely, Walter and Florence Graham,Saskatoon SK Canada

He was one of the best... Kind, gentle, forgiving.. a true people person right to the end. I will miss him and his laugh. Thanks to all who remember and knew how exceptional he was. I will do my best to carry on his name and the values that were part of his very soul... I will see him some day.. but will feel him forever :)

Awww-Sorry for the loss of your father Mark. I remember your family living right next door to mine on Mallory and some of the parties my grandparents would have with your parents there. Your dad loved to dance there. I also remember meeting your dad at a high school friends wedding years ago-he was taking pictures and we chatted over a drink. I also still have the picture he took of me with chicken pox's-yuk. Thanks Elmer! Well-He was always very nice to me. Please take care Mark and know that someone from a long time ago remembers your dad. Here's to you Elmer!
