Helen Mary Schmidt

Schmidt, Helen Mary (Nee Geitner) Age 87 years of Barrington and Cary, Il. Passed away on February 27, 2012, at her home after a long battle with ovarian cancer. She was born on June 12, 1924 in Sturgeon Bay, WI to Frank and Mary Geitner. She married Roland W. Schmidt on August 22, 1953. He preceded her in death on October 31, 2000. Helen was a Pharmacist 's Mate 2nd Class as a Wave in the U.S. Navy during WWII and served in Bethesda, MD and Seattle, WA. After her service, she returned to Sturgeon Bay, WI and then moved to Milwaukee, WI where she met Roland. They married and had a daughter, Susan Sweinberg. Helen worked as a beautician and as a clinical assistant for the city of Milwaukee before she retired. She loved making crafts, playing cards, and bowling. Helen moved to Illinois and lived in Barrington and Cary, IL to be closer to family and doctors. Survivors include her daughter Susan Sweinberg (Ken), three granddaughters, Lindsay, Nicole, and Christine, one brother Clarence Geitner and three sisters, Jean (Ed) Owen, Rose May, Lucille Temby, and many nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband Roland, and three brothers Everett, Joseph, and John Geitner preceded her in death. with her beloved husband. Further survived by other relatives and many good friends. Visitation Friday, March 02, 2012 9:00 am at ST. VERONICA CHURCH 4001 S. Whitnall Ave. until time of MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL at 10:00 am. Private interment Southeast Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery with her beloved husband. In lieu of flowers, Helen requested donations to be made to St. Veronica's Church for memorial masses or Family Center Hospice in IL.
