Sharon,
My name is Jim Yee and David and I were best of friends at Maryland Ave. Grade School.
I am so sorry I never made it to David´s funeral because I found out after the fact years later.
I tried at that time when I heard of David´s passing, to locate you to say I´m sorry to hear about David´s passing.
Today is September 01,2013 and I finally saw David´s obituary through another Riverside friend who posted David´s obituary on our Riverside FB page . We just celebrated our 50th HS Reunion 2 weeks ago and some of the students tried to put a list together of our fellow students who passed away.
I just saw David´s obituary and I am finally getting a chance to pay my condolences and respect to you and you Daughters after all these years. In a way, this is finally giving me closer with respect to my dear childhood friend.

Take care!

Sharon,

Please accept my condolences. David and I spent the summer of 1977 together at the Wright-Ingraham Institute for Environmental Studies in Colorado.

December 19, 2012

Dear Sharon and family,
The sad news about David reached us only recently and brought with it many memories. Grieving, yet remembering the light in David's eyes, his smile and kindness, as he shared his curiousity and vitality with others.
We were privileged to meet David and his family back in 1968, when our parents, Uriel and Pnina Yisraeli, were the first 'Shlichim' to Milwaukee. We remember the Lerman's home, the warmth and joy, alongside the interesting and stimulating conversations. Years later,it was so meaningful for our parents and us to meet David, and you, Sharon - here, in Israel. We were touched by the way you expressed your thoughts and perceptions with such care and respect to the human complexity of all the people living on this land.
David's light will continue to shine in our hearts.

Our deepest condolences,

Carmel, Eynat and Yael

I just found out about David. He was in my Meso group on line with ACOR. We e-mailed often and shared alternative ideas. I have lived 16 years with Meso. It saddens me every time I hear this sad news. Jill Vaughn

Dear Sharon and family:

Please accept my deepest sympathies for the passing of David. Although I only saw David a few times in recent years, I have many fond memories of growing up with David on the eastside. I will always remember David as one of my closets friends in the neighborhood. I always thought of him as a teacher, someone I always leaned from.
I am so sorry his life ended too soon, there is alot more the world could have learned from David.
May he rest in peace and may God bless you and your family.

I knew David in my capacity as former station manager of WYMS radio, where he hosted the weekly "Jewish Cultural Hour" every Sunday. He will be missed for his commitment to justice and his talent for sharing the rich Jewish cultural experience with listeners throughout the Milwaukee area. My sympathies to his family.

I never met David, yet knew his father very well. It appears that the son quite well followed in his father's footstep, regarding justice, equal rights and respect for others.

Yet, much as changed in our environments and success if difficult, yet I understand David tried very hard to mame restorative justice a lasting symbol for us all.

He's doing good somewhere.

Sharon, So sorry to hear the news of David's death. My Prayers are with you and your family as you deal with the loss of such a wonderful husband, father and man!

Dear Lerman Family--I was both surprised and saddened to read about your loss. I knew David and the entire family when they lived on Summit Avenue. David and my brother, John, shared a love for baseball, baseball cards, and riding their bikes throughout the neighborhood. I'm so glad we reconnected at John's 50th. birthday party and had the opportunity to meet Sharon. They were both so warm and kind. I have fond memories of the entire family. May his memory be eternal.

Our family moved to Milwaukee in 1963 and the Lermans were our first and lasting friends. Liz and I were in the same class in school. We shared many wonderful and some sad times together. I babysat for David often and spent countless hours with him and his baseball cards, learning players, batting averages and ERAs; and competing against each other in Wide Wide World, which is where I'm sure we both learned geography. I know what a special man he grew up to be, but I will always have sweet memories of him as a young boy - curious, eager and loving. I send the entire Lerman family my love, Ellen

My deepest condolences to you all. David was a man of superb human character. His sense of purpose and justice brought a touch of compassion and human understanding in the midst of all too often judicial insensitivity. Your loss will be felt by all who knew him.

To the Lerman family,

I am so sorry for your loss. I had the opportunity to work with David for many years and we became friends. He and Rachel came to visit me after I came home from having my third child. I will miss him very much.

October 23, 2012

My deepest sympathies to the Lerman family. Dave and I worked together for many years but it was his Restorative Justice Program that I most respected. In a case that I thought would never end with the parties being brought together, David did just that. We met with the victim at a co-op. It was Dave's idea. Let's make him comfortable. And we went from there with resounding success. He will be so missed in this office. Janet Protasiewicz

I was a Deputy Sheriff for 25 years and worked with David a few times. He was a great person and a good DA. I believe I even investigated a minor car accident on I 43 he was involved in. David was gracious and we even joked about it a few times...

October 22, 2012

Dear Lerman family,
I was one of David's first interns with the Community Conferencing program through the law school, and what I learned from him will be with me always. He inspired a passion in me that became contagious, and I couldn't help but talk about it to anyone who would listen. I am so very grateful to have known him, as it is so rare to be in the company of someone as pure of heart as David. I hurt for your loss, and I hope that you can find comfort in all of our messages of deep respect for your husband and father.

October 22, 2012

Sharon, Perry and I just learned of your great loss tonight. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. If there is anything you need, please don't hesitate to ask. May God comfort you and your family during this time of sorrow. David will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

October 22, 2012

Dear Sharon and family,
My most recent memory of David was at a demonstration, when I was having a tough time keeping up with the crowd in my wheelchair--and David noticed, and not only helped push, but made the journey a fun inclusive and joyous adventure--singing and chanting all the way. He truly lived his message of peace in so many ways. I only wish I could have known him better--longer. Blessings be with you.

Jeremiah Riemer

October 22, 2012

My brothers Seth and David Riemer and my mother Ruby Riemer talked often about David's wonderful life, his passion for justice, and his courage facing illness. I am sorry I did not know him better at Riverside. Seth recently told me how moved he was to daven with David on the Lake Michigan shore during a recent visit. To the Lerman family: Ha-makom yenakhem etkhem b'tokh sh'ar a'vaylay Tzion v'Y'rushalayim.

Dear Lerman Family,

I was so sorry and shocked to hear about David's passing. I am glad I had the chance to know him way back when we were forming the garin to Har Halutz, when we were neighbors in Karmiel, starting our families of 3 girls each... and beyond. He was such a brilliant, warm and insightful man who influenced so many. I am blessed to have known him.

David has touched so many lives and provided opportunities for success through challenges that would not have been available without his passion for second chances.

I am eternaly grateful for his insight, his wisdom and his love for humanity. Thank you, for sharing David with the students and the staff of MPS.

David was one of the rarest, most beautiful souls I have ever had the privilege to know. This is such a profound loss for our entire city and far beyond. Sharon and the girls would not believe how many people's lives he touched and improved, and I don't believe there's a finer human being alive. How blessed we all were to have had him among us for this too brief time.

October 21, 2012

I am so saddened to learn of David's death. He was man committed to justice in the community through peacemaking and restorative processes. David also reminded all of us to keep our priorities straight....our faith, our families, and our work to make this world a better place. We will all miss his presence, his encouragement and his love of all people. However, as we always say in restorative justice discussions, his work will continue to ripple goodness and grace for others.

October 21, 2012

I met David when he came to our school to train us in restorative justice practices. All the times he worked with us not only changed my teaching philosophy, it changed my outlook on life.

To this day I still use everything he taught us in my classroom. My students love doing restorative justice circles and they even set them up if they feel there is a problem in the classroom. None of this would have been possible without him.

Dear Sharon and family,

I am so sorry to hear of your loss of your wonderful husband and father. Although my work with David in Restorative Justice was limited, my knowing David was a blessing that I will never be able to repay. David was so self-giving in his passion for justice, delivered in a humane and compassionate way. He was truly a role-model to so many persons in public office--the epitome of integrity in every way.

I pray for your consolation in this painful time, and know you will find strength in the beautiful memories David leaves with you.

Peace--and in his own words--be well!
