I was privledged to meet Jim through my many years of travels as a National Training Associate with BGCA. Jim seemed to ALWAYS have a smile on his face. You could easily tell the passion he had for helping make a difference in the lives of others. I'm saddened by his passing yet greatful for knowing such an inspirational & "fun guy"! I know his legacy will live on in many of us touched by his spirit. Best wishes to his family and so many dear friends. (B&GC Arlington)

Jim was one of those people who you remebered all your life. I met him during his college days at UWM and we had many great times together playing touch football and just talking. My condolances to his friends and family. The world is a poorer for his passing but richer for his having been here. George Dreckmann (Madison, WI)

It has been many, many years ago but I grew up with Danny on 9th and Clarke in Milwaukee. We went to grade school together. My name is Sandra but you may remember me as Peaches Palmer. I extend my heartfelt sympathy to all of you and pray God will give you strength during this time and as the days go by. I am sorry our paths separated and I lost touch but I've read of the wonderful things Danny did and all the lives he touched. Be blessed.

I am so saddened and shocked by Jim's passing. My deepest sympathy to the family of this amazing man and prayers that God will comfort you now and in the days ahead. I was blessed to have known him particularly during my time with B&GC in Oklahoma City. He graced us with his presence and always made himself available to assist. I looked forward to seeing his smiling face at conferences and learn from his wisdom what it was to be a true professional.

I will never forget that Jim took me under his wing on my very first trip to New York for a meeting with the national Boys & Girls Club. I was terrified but I wanted to do everything! We went to Les Miserables which I don't think he really wanted to see. And he introduced me to B Smiths. I've been back to NY several times and I think of him on each trip. He was a great sport, good company, and he encouraged me immensely. I regret having to miss the service this morning.

"Early in my career, I was able to spend some quality time with Jim. He was very genuine and someone that exuded BGC Blue. He was always a mentor and made me feel like I belonged and that I could make a difference. I am surprised and saddended to hear of Jim's passing. His life's work will carry on through the many indiviuals that he touched. Steve Ratto (Alameda, Ca)

If I can help somebody and I travel along, if I can help somebody with a word or a song, if I can so some young person they are traveling wrong then my living will not be in vain. This is what I believe Jim would say I know that is what he practiced he was a good friend and mentor to kids. May God Bless and keep in this hour of sadness. Ann Wilson

To the family and friends of Mr. Jim Cox, I am keeping you and him in my thoughts and prayers at this sad time. I had the honor and privilege of working with Jim at Boys & Girls Clubs of America. He was a fierce advocate of youth and the disenfranchised, yet that was tempered by his personal warmth, patience, tolerance and that wonderfully wry sense of humor. We will all miss him and his spirit.

Jim was a wonderful individual, dependable colleague and friend. I will always remember him for his eternally cheerful attitude and keen ability to lighten any mood with laughter. He was a driven, yet sensitive and compassionate leader who never compromised his values. He was more than a colleague to many at Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and I include myself in the number who considered Jim a mentor beyond comparison. Pleasant memories of Jim will keep us until we're all together again in the afterlife...

I was stunned to hear "Danny Boy" had passed. I thought back to our times together on 13th and Clarke Street so many years ago (the Martin's, Neal's and Cox's and so many other families playing and having such a wonderful time as friends) "Weeping may endure for the night but joy comes in the morning" Psalm 30:5
May you find comfort in the Words of the LORD..God Bless..Gertie (Neal) Gilliam and family

Uncle Danny Boy you will be missed! Some of our greatest memories are his matchless sense of humor and his great wisdom acquired over the course of his life. I remember when he took me on my first camping trip, playing the alphabet game on the way there with Jimmy and Jackie, We had so much fun together. He always knew the absolute best restaurants to eat at. Just thinking about it now makes me really hungry(lol). The family will never forget you and what you meant to us all. Grandma, Jenny, Jimmy, Jackie, Mom & Randy, Richard & Terry, and the rest of the family, our beloved Danny Boy is not here physically, but his spirit will always live on within our hearts!

Being that Mr.Cox(always called him Mr.Cox) was my first supervisor in my professional career, I was always amazed at how he managed to stay cool under what I would consider pressure. I was a young professional working at the Hillside Boys and Girls Club. In the summer of 1988, it seemed as though the club had hired an entirely new staff. For Mr.Cox to blend us all together and come up with a top notch group of dedicated employees is remarkable. I knew it was just a matter of time before he was moving on to bigger things in life. I owe Mr.Cox so much for having the faith to hire me and for helping me to be there for the children. We have lost a great friend and the world has lost a super human being. My prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.

Fly away Mr. Cox. You are a legend. Thank you for your wisdom and for sharing your dedication to youth. I will always remember your stories and humor. Your historical accounts growing up in Milwaukee were fantastic. I will never forget you. May the ancestors keep you and show you the way. Love proceeds...

Jim Cox will always be a sterling example of what a true educator and youth development professional should be. I used to sit and listen in awe in my early days at Boys & Girls Clubs of America as he rattled off wisdom that went deep into the heart of some of the crises and problems plaguing urban America and made me realized I wasn't nearly as knowledgeable as I thought I was! Thanks for your legacy, Jim, and for truly making a difference! You will be missed, gentle friend!

Jim will be missed greatly. His laughter and smile will be with me always. He was a childhood friend, a brother and mentor at Boys & Girls Club of America in New York City, Atlanta and the local Club in Milwaukee. Jim spoke truth and changed the lives of America's most needy youth.

Dear family,

Mr. James Cox was a wonderful man that was truly taken away from us too soon. He was a beautiful father, brother, uncle, husband and friend and will be missed by all who knew him. He will know longer need to fight the battles of his illness for he is safe with God in Heaven and free from all of worries of this world.
