Carl Baranek


1921 - 2013 | Notice Condolences
Baranek, Carl Age 92, beloved husband of Jacqueline Baranek of Cudahy, peacefully passed away Wednesday morning Nov. 13, 2013, surrounded by family. He was born to the late Joseph and Magdelena Baranek, Nov. 6, 1921, in Oak Creek, WI Carl graduated from South Milwaukee High School and received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin Madison. During college, Carl enlisted in the Army Air Corps (525 Squadron of the 86th Fighter/Bomber Group), and left for Italy in 1944 to fly the P-47 Thunderbolts and the P-51. He flew 122 missions while in the service. After returning from the service and finishing college, he joined the Oak Creek Legion Post and became Commander. With his two brothers, John and Tony, he started a business manufacturing colored plastic automobile visors. He went to Detroit and worked at Chrysler as an engineer doing test and development of Army tanks. Carl returned to Cudahy and pursued the home building, real estate and insurance fields. Carl married Jacqueline Magnusson on May 12, 1951. He was a Lion's Club member for the past 40 years and received the prestigious Melvin Jones Award. Carl was an active member and volunteer of the Board of Directors of the Cudahy/St. Francis Interfaith Program for the Elderly and was treasurer for ten years. He volunteered for the IRS Income Tax Assistance Program for eighteen years. Carl was President of the Wisconsin Slovak Historical Society, serving as President for nine years. He is a past member of the City of Cudahy Building Board, Holy Family Church Building Board, past President for Grant Park Senior Men's Gold Club and past volunteer of TV Channel 10/36 Friends. Carl worked as a Cudahy poll worker as Chief Inspector for ten years. He volunteered for the GMO PGA Golf Tournament. In 1999, he was inducted into the Milwaukee Senior Citizen Hall of Fame. Carl is survived by three children, Karen (Mark) Sostarich, Debbie (Randy) Rose, and Marie (Kenton) Rose. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Samantha, Alex, Brianne (Keith), Chelsea (Kyle), Jackie, Elise, Carlton, and Mason, and two great-grandchildren, August and Emma. Visitation Saturday, Nov. 16, at Nativity of The Lord, 3672 E. Plankinton Ave., Cudahy, 9:00-11:00 AM with a mass to follow at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Wisconsin Slovak Historical Society located in Cudahy.
