Charlie Parker grew up one block from my home on First Street in Ahoskie, NC. His father was the Sheriff of Hertford County for many years. The family was very well respected and friends of my family. Although Charlie was much older, I remember him as a college boy and a soldier, home for the weekend -- smiling and waving to the neighborhood children. Some people leave a lasting impression. He certainly did. My sympathy is extended to the family.

I think of old friends in Milwuakee often and one of my dear friends was Charlie Parker. Charlie was truly a community leader and volunteer rivaled by none. It was a pleasure working with Charlie on the Junior Achievement Board of Directors and with Sophie on the Womens Board of JA. Charlie will be missed, but not forgotten. Our most heart felt sympathy goes to Sophie, the family and all of Charlies friend.

Charlie was the consummate community volunteer and I'll always remember him for his integrity, commitment and enthusiasm for helping young people reach their true potential. As Chair of Junior Achievement in 1980 he did just that! My sincere condolences to his family and dear friends. He was a great person and will be missed.
