Donald Kyle Stitt

Stitt, Donald Kyle Of Port Washington, died peacefully in his sleep on September 16, 2014, in Jacksonville, Florida. Don was born in Milwaukee to Nancy and Norman on November 26, 1944. He spent his childhood summers at TeRonde Beach in Oostburg. Don attended Whitefish Bay High School and went on to receive his degree in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He earned law degrees from Marquette University and Georgetown Law School. After serving on the Port Washington / Saukville School Board, Don ran in a special election for the State Assembly and served in the Wisconsin State Legislature from 1979-1993, first representing the constituents of the 60th Assembly District and moving on to represent the 20th Senate District. After serving in the legislature, Don joined the law firm of Whyte, Hirschboeck Dudek where he served as a partner. Don also served as the chair of the Republican Party of Wisconsin. Don was an avid outdoorsman and hunted with his brother and beloved dogs for many years. He also had a passion for sailing including many competitive Chicago-Mackinac races along with pleasure trips with his family. Don enjoyed traveling and traveled extensively; he lived in London for a period of time with his wife Mary. Don loved the great outdoors and frequent trips to Alaska, Africa and many other destinations, but his favorite for many years was his "getaway" home outside of Montego Bay, Jamaica. Don will always be remembered for his spirit of adventure, exploration and passion for politics. Don is survived by his wife, Mary (Crutchfield); brother Gordon of Eagle River; and children Jonathan Kyle Stitt (Tampa, FL), Sarah Collins (Denver, CO), Lindsay Pascoe (Ben) (Houston, TX), and Heidi Hoffman(John) (Cedarburg). He is further survived by 6 grandchildren, Pierce (5), Lauren (9), Michael (2), Adelaide (12), Ryan (14), and Patrick (15). A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, October 5 from 2:00-5:00 PM at the Milwaukee Yacht Club, 1700 North Lincoln Memorial Drive, Milwaukee, WI.
