Chris and Mark, we just recently heard the news and are so very sad. I will always remember Don as a kind soul with cheer in his voice and a smile on his face every time I saw him. I will keep those memories with me always. Georgia, Tom and Lexi Dollhopf

Chris
It's hard finding the right words to say at a time with this, but I would just like to say, "You and your family have my deepest condolences." Remember he is gone to a better place. God's Heavely Angels are watching over you and your family to help you through this rough time. He's gone from your presence but never from your heart. His memory lives on.

Chris, Mark and the Murphy Family,
My deepest sympathy to all of you. Don was a really cool person. It has been years since seeing him as I have moved up north to Ladysmith, Wi and reside along the Flambeau River.
I am Eileen Eichholz. As a young girl, we visited with the Murphy family often. Wendell took the pictures and movies of my wedding. Good to know that Don had such an appetite for photography.
I will plant a tree in memory of Don. He will grace the shoreline of the Flambeau River.
Peace to all of you. Remember the good times you had together.
Love,
Eileen Eichholz-Gillis

This is the hardest thing I ever had to do in my adult life so far, sitting here and reflecting on my mentor.
From the first moment I met Don at recruitment night at Mount Olive, I think about everything he has taught me and memories he has rekindled from my childhood, and that is Scouting.
I remember at recruitment night filling out my application for my son there was the question," Are You A Eagle Scout"?
I checked the box and put the date of when I earned it. I filled in the rest and waited for Don to come around to check it.
When he got around to my son and me he looked it over, he went through every question until he got to that one question, “Are You A Eagle Scout"?
He stood up, looked me in the eyes and saluted me and then shook my hand
Don told me of his scouting years as a kid and wished he saw it all the way through to Eagle. Don said that earning the Eagle rank is the greatest achievement for a boy to accomplish.
After that day I think Don started training me and molding me into being a den leader and now the Cub Master of Pack 34.
Don would make sure that I was involved with the boys, whether it was leading a hike or taking the pack fishing at one of our campouts.
Don would use me as an example every chance he had to talk to the boys about my Eagle rank.
Sadly, Don never finished his Eagle Badge, but he is soaring with Eagles and walking with the greatest Cub Master “God”.

Chris & Mark,
I hope you will find this a poem as helpful as I did:
GOD saw your road was getting weary. HE did what he thought best, He came and stood beside you and whispered, "Come and rest." You told no one a last farewell; not even a goodbye. You were gone before we knew it and 'only' GOD knows why.

Chris and Mark:
What is it about holidays? July 4th will never be the same. We rejoice for Don's new heavenly life. I grieve for you both as the hard times come, life goes on, and Don is not here with you to answer questions and give hugs. You are in my thoughts and prayers, Chris and Mark. Love you.

To the family,
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Mark and Christine are in my prayers.
I had the pleasure of meeting Don on a Cub Scout camping trip in June of 2008 at Indian Mound Reservation. I accompanied my nephew, Lance to the "Swashbuckler's Weekend" as his "parent" for the event. I was amazed at his dedication to scouting and making sure everyone had a great time. It was an unforgettable weekend for my nephew and I. He will be missed by all in scouting I'm sure.
God Bless

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Donald M. Murphy. I had the privilege of working with Donald when he took pictures for the Milwaukee Public Library. He had a great eye for photography. He was an outstanding father to Mark and husband to Chris. I pray for strength for them both during this difficult time. I am here for you both. Donald, may you rest in peace. I thank God for knowing you and you will be greatly missed.

Chris, I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. May God continue to keep you and Mark as comfortable as possible. I can remember when Donald first became the photographer for MPL. My daughter was even in some of the pictures and videos. Such a good person gone too soon.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
