Eldor W. "Katzie" Kannenberg Notice
Kannenberg, Eldor W. "Katzie" Eldor "Katzie" Kannenberg, 92, died July 3, 2013, at the Lighthouse in West Bend. He was born November 28, 1920, son of Frederick and Louisa (nee Voigt) Kannenberg. He graduated from West Bend High School in 1938, where he won the Pick award for his football prowess. He parlayed that skill into a football scholarship to Marquette University, where he studied business administration. His studies were interrupted by WWII. He served in the Army Air Force, stationed in Italy, where he achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant and developed a lifelong dislike of Italian food, much to the dismay of his family. Eldor resumed his studies under the GI Bill, marrying Gertrude ("Becky") Beck in 1946. After graduation from Marquette, Eldor became a Certified Public Accountant and returned to West Bend in 1952, establishing his own accounting firm, Kannenberg & Marx, later E.W. Kannenberg and Co. and finally Kannenberg, Kieckhafer and Co. In the course of a long and active career, Eldor made significant contributions to his community. He was a charter member of the St. Joseph Community Hospital Advisory Board and served in various capacities for local chapters of the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, and the Chamber of Commerce. He also served on the Board of Directors for several local businesses, including West Bend Savings and Loan (now Westbury Bank), West Bend Equipment Corp., and Kasten Mfg. Eldor served as president of West Bend Rotary Club in 1958, and, in 1983, was named a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International in recognition of outstanding service to his community. Eldor enjoyed hunting and fishing but his true passion was golf. Like many golfers, his love for the game unfortunately outstripped his skill, though he won the Class C Championship at West Bend Country Club in 1970 and 1973. He will be sorely missed by the water hole on #14, which he visited regularly. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Becky (nee Beck) Kannenberg; son Mark (Virginia) Kannenberg; daughters Lisa (Lori Tiberio) Kannenberg, Mary Elliott, and Betsy Day; son John (Dave Jacob) Kannenberg and daughter Amy (Scott) Kissinger; grandchildren Chad Day, Karie Elliott, Lizz (fiance Michael Pietrus) Kannenberg, Katie Elliott, Katherine (Aaron) Gregory, Andrew Kissinger, Evan Kissinger, and Eric Kissinger; great-grandchildren Kyle Day, Jennifer Elliott, and Jacob Jeanes; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents; brothers Elmer Kannenberg, Arnold Kannenberg, and Harvey Kannenberg and sister Erna Pergande Last. Visitation will be at St. John's Lutheran Church, 809 S. 6th Ave., West Bend, at 4PM Friday, July 26, followed by a service and military honors at 5PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. John's, the Washington County , or a .
