Bessler, Erwin "Bud" Lifelong Cudahy, Wisconsin resident. Surrounded by his loving family, Bud found peace on Thursday, September 20, 2012, at the age of 89. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Anastasia (nee Wedig). Devoted father of Bonnie (Paul Sekulovich) Kotlewski, Joy (Mike) Schramka, Jackie (Terry) Benka, Erwin, Jr. "Bud" (Julie) and Merry (Scott) Swan. Loving brother of Florence (the late Stephen) Wisniewski. Proud Grandpa of Keri (Patrick) Boland, Timothy (Damaris), Jeffrey, and Michael Kotlewski; Lauren, Adam, and Jordan Schramka; Tony and Brett Benka; Kaitlyn and Brad Bessler; and Madison and Morgan Swan. Great-Grandpa of Caden Boland. Also survived by Vy Kotlewski other relatives and friends. Visitation on Monday, September 24, from 9:00-11:00 AM. Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 AM, at Nativity of the Lord Church, 3672 E. Plankinton Avenue, Cudahy, WI 53110. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery. Special thanks to Bud's caregiver Christopher Fox and the VNA Hospice. Bud was a decorated WWII U.S. Army veteran earning the Silver Battle Star, French Legion Medal of Honor and the Purple Heart. He had a deep commitment to his hometown of Cudahy as an Alderman, School Board Director, and a member of various City Commissions. He continued to be a strong advocate for Veterans and Senior Citizens after leaving public office. Bud was instrumental in the design, fundraising, and construction of the Cudahy War Memorial. He was a graduate of the Layton School of Art, a Ladish Company retiree, President of BB Sign Company and a professional drummer. He was a Member of VFW Post 2895, Kerlin/Farina American Legion Post 16, Moose Lodge #49 and the PLAV. In lieu of flowers contributions to the Cudahy War Memorial would be appreciated. In honor of Bud, please wear a touch of red. Please remember him in your prayers. And as Bud would say, "SMILE".
