Irvin William Leichtfuss Jr. Notice
Leichtfuss, Irvin William Jr. Age 78, died peacefully on June 21, 2012 after a brief illness. Born September 22, 1933, in Milwaukee to Irvin and Margaret (O'Neill) Leichtfuss. A loving husband of 50 years to Susan Leichtfuss (nee Muscato), he is also survived by his children, Peter Leichtfuss and Ann Olen; his sister, Joan Abernethy; his grandchildren, Ainsley, Audrey, and Anderson; and many cherished nephews, nieces, and extended family members. Irvin was preceded in death by his parents and brother David Leichtfuss. Irvin attended Wauwatosa High School, Northwestern University, and Marquette University Dental School. After serving in the United States Air Force he was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain and moved back to Milwaukee where he practiced dentistry for over 40 years. Shortly after marrying, Irvin moved his family to Elm Grove where he and Susan raised their two children and made many close friends. In 2002 he and Susan retired to Florida where he taught Dental Hygiene at Pasco-Hernando Community College, when not honing his skills on the golf course. Irvin had a lifelong passion for reading and education, and the nightly dinner table often transformed into an animated lecture on Civil War history, biology, or whatever subject his children happened to be studying in school that day. Most importantly, Irvin was lovingly devoted to his family, and his gentle nature, compassion for others, and ever-curious intellect will be sorely missed but always remembered. Private family burial at Bushnell National Cemetery in Florida on July 16, 2012. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Elm Grove Public Library appreciated.
