Birch, John R. Died Sept. 13, 2013, of Menomonee Falls. Aged 90. Beloved husband of Dolores (Lang, nee Mikuleky). Dear father of John (Jude), James (Ann), David, Barbara (James Carl) and Mark (Charlotte Powers). Loving stepfather of Kathleen Lang, Pamela (Dennis) Puzach, Susan Lang, Cindy Lang, Maribeth (Alvin) Hubbert, Sandra (Daniel) Smith and Jennifer Lang. Also survived by 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren. Further survived by sister-in-law Jeanne and nephews and nieces and their families. Preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Janet; his brothers Frank and Thomas; and his sister-in-law Carolyn. John graduated from Iowa State University in 1947 as a civil engineer and worked in Elkhorn, Whitewater, and Beaver Dam, WI. In 1962, he founded Birch-Grisa-Phillips, Inc. and engaged in building design, land planning, and construction management, and then became an architect designing many projects in Wisconsin and 12 other states. He retired in 1985. During WWII, John served as a B-29 pilot in the Pacific and was awarded the Air Medal, Purple Heart, and other citations. John was active in civic affairs, including the Architectural Board of Menomonee Falls, the Falls Historical Society, and the MF Lions Club. He belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was an enthusiastic golfer and Packer fan. Memorial Service will be at 12 noon on Oct. 5, 2013, at Wisconsin Memorial Park, 13235 West Capitol Dr., Brookfield, WI 53005. In lieu of flowers, please send remembrances to Clement J.
