Davis, Starkey Dee M.D. Of Menomonee Falls, died on December 27, 2012. He was born in Atlanta, Texas, on January 29, 1931. His parents were Sidney Rush Davis, Sr. and Veda Nichols Davis. Beloved husband of Kathryn Maegli Davis. Father of Michael Davis, April (Mark) Roshak and Kim Davis. Further survived by 2 sisters other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, January 13, 2013, at 2:30PM, at the Milwaukee Yacht Club, 1700 N. Lincoln Memorial Dr., Milwaukee. The family will greet friends Sunday 1PM until time of the Service and a Reception will follow the Service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin appreciated. Starkey graduated from Atlanta, Texas High School in 1949 and was class president and co-captain of the football team. He attended Baylor University at Waco,Texas on a full athletic scholarship in football. He lettered on the football team and played in the 1951 Orange Bowl. Dr. Davis attended Baylor Medical College in Houston, Texas from 1953-1957 and obtained a M.D. degree. He served a one year rotating internship in Shreveport, LA, from 1958-1960, he served in the U.S. Public Health Service in Columbus, Georgia and was assigned to the Tuberculosis Program. His pediatric residency was served at Baylor in Houston from 1960-1962. Starkey was given a 3 year U.S. Public Health Service Research Fellowship under Dr. Ralph Wedgwood, a well known investigator at the
University of Washington
in Seattle. He was awarded an individual National Institutes of Health Research Grant. Starkey remained on the faculty and was promoted to Professor in 1973. In 1975, he was recruited to the Department of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Davis was co-editor of the textbook,"Infections in Children", published in 1982. In 1983, he became Chairman of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Wisconsin and Pediatrician-in-Chief at Children's Hospital and held these appointments until 1993. He resigned in 1993 and became Assistant Dean for Admissions and Chairman of the Admissions Committee. In 1996, he retired and became Professor Emeritus. Since then, he has been a volunteer for the first grade at Ben Franklin Elementary School in Menomonee Falls. He and his wife, Kathryn, have been avid tennis players and skied downhill in Vail, Colorado, for 22 years. During their 30 years of marriage, they have traveled extensively. The family would like to give a "special thanks" to the Lutheran Home in Wauwatosa for all their compassionate care.
