Louie was a kind gentleman and a true diplomat for the Polka Music industry. It was an honor to have known him and serve on the Board of the Wisconsin Polka Hall of Fame with him. I also had the privilege of playing drums in his band on occasion. I remember the first gig I ever worked with Louie. Before we started he told me” Kid…I don’t want you playing too loud. If the dancers can hear you out on the dance floor then you’re too loud. Better for me tell you to play louder than to tell you to play quieter.” After a couple of tunes Louie leaned back and said to me. “Kid I think your kick-drum needs to be a little louder. Otherwise, everything else is ok.” I affectionately recall this because it showed what a true professional he was. The Wisconsin Polka Hall of Fame extends their sincerest sympathy to Louie’s family. His music and memories will never be forgotten.

When I worked at Rohrer Music Store on National Ave, I got to know Louis well as we visited his tavern often, which was located around the corner, just north of National Ave. Our friendship grew because we were both accordionists. What a great friend I had. Remembering Louis brings smiles. He will be remembered by his many friends and will be missed. We loved him.

Dear Great Great Uncle Louie's family,
Bob, Linda, Di and Ken, Debbie and Don and cousins,
Our deepest sympathy on the passing of your father.
It seems like yesterday I was riding my bicycle to your home to visit all of you. I also love to rmember polka dancing with Mom (Joanne) and Uncle Bill all around grandpa's tavern on Sunday. He always had the warmest smile and happiest expression in his eyes. Did you know your musical family encouraged me to learn the flute after listening to Dianes' violin recitals, the flute and guitar playing? Now thankfully, all 3 of my children play instruments too. It's not the same style, but the music provides us with something, nothing else in life can.
I have used Uncle Louie's polkas at work and they have never failed to cheer people up within 5 minutes. Their feet cannot stop tapping - no matter if they are over 100 yrs old!
It's been great creating beautiful Slovenian memories in my life, and I will never forget them.
By the way, when I told Grandma Barnes, Uncle Louie had passed tonight, she told me, "are you kidding", "I just talked to him and his brother last night", I asked which brother and she told me "Joe". She was definate and clear about this and I told her I believe her. I don't doubt for a minute that his brother took him by the hand for his journey home and he will never be alone again.
My God bless him and all of you,
All Our Love,
The Mansouri's

To the Bashell Family:
My prayers and thoughts are with you in your time of sorrow. Our family knew you dad when we were growing up in Greenfield, WI in the late 70’s, he lived right behind us and I can still remember hearing the music come from their home. My parents just loved his music. May you cherish all of the good memories that you have.

Louie Bashell, my buddy. There will never be another Louie Bashell. Louie had one of the most danceable polka tempos, not to slow, and not to fast.
I can just see Louie right now, standing next to Frank Yankovic, playing polka after polka, in perfect harmony. "Jaz Pa Ti, Pa Zidana Marela (You and I Under the Silk Umbrella)". The Silk Umbrella man, has hung up his silk umbrella and accordion for the last time. Louie was never to busy, to shake your hand, or chat with you. God Bless you Louie and the rest of the Bashell near and distant family.

To the family;
Your father was one of my mentors when I was taking lessons to play my accordian as a young girl in Milwaukee. He was wonderful and I remember his smile and joy as he inspired many of us and that was over 60 years ago. He brought joy to the dancing feet of many a polka dancer and that was good!!!
