1920 - 2014 Notice Condolences
Alice Ptacek Notice
Ptacek, Alice Alice was born on September 26, 1920, one of ten children of Walter and Antoinette Jablonowski, Polish immigrants. She died on April 15, 2014, at Milwaukee Catholic Home. Alice was salutatorian of her Cudahy High School class, and received a full scholarship to Marquette University, enrolling there in 1938. She enjoyed a career as a Speech Pathologist for Milwaukee Public Schools for many years, working in the Head Start Program and schools in the African-American and Hispanic communities. She marched in support of the Equal Rights Amendment in Chicago in the 1970's and walked the picket line in support of her teachers' union in the 1960's. She will be remembered for her intelligence, curiosity, kindness, adventurous spirit, and for the love she gave her family. Alice was preceded in death by her dear husband, Joe, and her daughter-in-law, Kitty. She is survived by her five children: Joe (Lynne) of Santa Fe, NM; Louise; John; Jim (Bonnie Zimmer) of Cambridge, MA and Kathy Batha (Joel) of Madison, WI. She is also survived by her grandsons, Alex Zimmer of Cambridge, MA and Joe Ptacek of Minneapolis, MN. She is further survived by her sister, Virginia Popa of Brookfield, WI and many other relatives and friends. Deepest gratitude to the staff at Milwaukee Catholic Home for appreciating and loving our Mom, especially Rosemarie, Karen, Leslie, Marcia, Colleen, Carla, Christina, Mary Ann, Sue, Adele and Jackie. A celebration of our Mom's life will take place on Monday, April 21, at 2:00 PM, at First Unitarian Church, 1342 N. Astor Street, Milwaukee. Family will greet visitors after the service in the Common Room of the Church. In lieu of flowers, if desired, memorials are appreciated to: First Unitarian Church, or International Rescue Committee, 122 East 42nd Street, New York, New York 10168 (www.rescue.org).
