Betty Samuelson Notice
Samuelson, Betty Of Fox Point, 82, passed away July 2, 2014, surrounded by the love of her many friends, after a battle with Lewy Body Dementia. A talented seamstress, Betty altered hems, and also the lives of those around her. Betty Mae Pomplun was born on May 13, 1932 at the family farm in Hillman, MN. After completing her education and moving to Milwaukee, Betty began her lifetime career as a tailoring seamstress, first honing her sewing machine skills at a Milwaukee clothing factory, and later making alterations for a men's fine clothing store. Finally, Betty struck out on her own, working for decades from her home in Fox Point. Wedding gowns and debutante dresses to common buttons and hems - every task completed on time and with pride by this meticulous seamstress. Betty's magic touched the wardrobes of many of Milwaukee's East Side families. Beyond her posts at Singer and Bernina, Betty loved travel, museums, theatre and music. She trekked miles in China, Mexico, and Germany. Modest yet "Hepburnish" in appearance, Betty could be seen around town in her one extravagance - a black Jaguar with custom plates. Most of all, Betty loved her friends and family, and she adored her pets, a series of happy, spoiled dogs. And these are who survive her and will miss her most: Betty's beloved Shih Tzu, Oreo; a sister in Tacoma, WA; and extended family in Minnesota. Additionally she is survived by many, many adoring friends and fans of "Betty Sam," all who dearly cherish the memory of her strong, stubborn nature and remember her fondly. Betty's team thanks Charity Yoder of Horizon Home Care, whose kind, professional guidance was invaluable to the previously unacquainted friends who grew in number and in dedication to Betty in her last year. Members of "Team Betty Sam" are forever changed by the honor of having made this journey.
