Mary B. VanWinkle

Notice Condolences

Mary B. VanWinkle Notice
Van Winkle, Mary B. A resident of Milwaukee, she passed away July 17, 2014, age 76. Loving wife of Robert V. Schweitzer. Dear sister of Debbie Van Winkle and Hope Van Winkle (Darryl Walker). Further survived by nieces, nephews, her "adopted" family: Debbie and John Voith, Adrian De Leon, Justin (Tabatha) De Leon, Sherene (Chad) Hoppa, Laura Voith, and preceded in death by close friend/"adopted" brother, Joe De Leon, and many more friends and loved ones- all she loved dearly. Mary was born and raised in Kentucky, which was evidenced by a southern charm that made people feel welcome in her home, and enchanted upon meeting her. She was always true to her roots and "Derby Day" was always a Holy Day of Obligation! Mary was extremely bright and witty and graduated summa cum laude from UW-Milwaukee, where she earned a degree in Social Welfare. Mary pursued this degree at 41 years of age- she had never completed high school prior to going to college! She worked for Wisconsin Correctional Service (WCS), and felt a special calling to work with adolescent girls. Mary possessed a timeless sense of style and grace, and you could see that younger women were drawn to her, older women admired her and men loved her. Mary's family will greet friends on Wednesday, July 30 from 5-7 PM at the Northshore Funeral Services Chapel, with a Life Celebration Service at 7:00 PM.
