White, Jack H. Age 64, passed away at his home in Tampa, FL on August 10, 2007. He was the son of the late Paul and Thelma (Wolfe) White of Akron, OH. Jack was educated in the Akron Public schools and completed his college degrees at The Cleveland Institute of Art & Design ('64) and Case Western Reserve University ('65). He began his teaching career at Layton School of Art and, upon its demise, he became one of the 7 co-founders of the Milwaukee School of Art (MIAD). He followed the late Guido Brink as President of MIAD and during his nine year tenure he secured North Central and NASAD recognition for the school as well as other scholastic and academic recognitions. He was also the creator and copywriter of "Milwaukee, a Great Place on a Great Lake". The Atlanta College of Art & Design selected Jack as head of it's Graphic Design department in 1989 with the sole charge of bringing computers into all areas of the graphic art department. Jack returned to Milwaukee in 1994 to found and become President of Jack White Design, a firm specializing in business to business communication, both web and print. Jack is survived by his partner, Bob Tambellini, two brothers, John (Linda) White, Jim (Mary) White, two sisters, Judith Svoboda and Jeanette (Jim) Michel, all of the Akron area as well as his two favorite pets, Houdi and Cedars. Services will be held on Tuesday, August 14, from 5 to 7PM at JGR Funeral Home, 6718 N. Armenia Avenue, Tampa, FL (813) 932-5308, [email protected] It was Jack's wish that memorials be sent to MIAD in his name.

Memories of Jack White have stayed with me. His knowledge, that he shared, continue to help me in my life as a designer. I am retired now; and, I am so appreciative of what I have learned from him. As a designer, I continue to work as a free lance designer. I can never stop enjoying being a designer thanks to the knowledge I had received from Jack White. His information has helped me to never say, "I can't think of anything". His knowledge was gold!! Thank you, Jack White for sharing with the world.

Jack White was my instructor at MIAD. After his passing, I had said, in this format, the many things Jack said that have stayed with me in my career. Even though it has been many years since his passing, his helpful words are still with me to this day. In my career, because of Jack, his words made all of my projects joyous and wonderfully fascinating challenges. He made my career "easy" and fun. I have retired from a company; but, I have not retired from working. Now, I am able to continue my passion with ease and I design for many people. Thank you, Jack White for what you have taught me and and the joy you have given my life.

Jack was one of my instructors at MIAD and, to this day, I remember so many things he had taught our class. I find myself using his quotes when I talk to others and using his advice daily when doing my work. He is a great loss to the world and to the art community.

So vast your talents,
so keen your perception...
I will miss you too, Jack,
but this world was always
a little too small for you, I think.
Now, at last, you can soar!

Much love to you and dear Bob always.

Jack was a great guy in a great place on a great lake, and he's now in a greater place than ever.
