I met Joe in 2011 at the Harley Davidson Museum in Milwaukee. I immediately liked him and Nancy. They were a great couple who seemed very happy together after many years of marriage. I was looking forward to getting to know them better and I'm praying for the family and all who are affected by such a tremendous loss. We all miss him very much.

Dear Nancy and family:
We grew up with Joe and have so many nice memories of him along with the entire Cocking family. More recently he had contacted me (Angela) about a Maryland Avenue School reunion and he was just as nice then as when he was a kid. Joe is part of the fond memories we have of the Belleview/Summit Ave neighborhood. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Dear Nancy and family,
Joe was my first hockey coach. He taught me how to skate backwards and I have fond memories of him not only as a great coach, but a great person. I am grateful to have had Joe as a mentor in my life, albeit for a short time. God Bless you all.

Dear Nancy and Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
My first thoughts when I learned from Jack that Joe is no longer with us was when Jack and I would play basketball (HORSE or 21) back in the mid 60's and "little Joe" would stop and watch us. Years later, when I was speed skating at the Pettit Center, I'd always see Joe there coaching one his hockey teams and we'd tease each other about who could skate the 400 meter oval faster, him on his hockey skates or me on my speed skates. I'm glad we never had at it as I feared he just could beat me! Joe coached my youngest son John playing hockey. Jack, Mary and I would often get together watching Joe as he coached one of his hockey teams through a game. Joe was a great kid/guy and I'm so sad that he's passed. He will be missed.

So saddened to hear this news. I remember when Lori and Jenn and I were little and used to have sleepovers all of the time! We would camp out in the back yard and Joe would let us do whatever we wanted, whether it be to stay up all night, tell scary stories, have a camp fire (and burn the handles on the grill), or just play together. He may not have known it but he provided a great example for our family of what a good father was! -Jessica Anderson (Westfall)
