Pete Peterson(1920 - 2013)

Pete Peterson passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 19, 2013. He was born on August 21, 1920 in Polk County near Big Springs, Nebraska to the late Elmer and Lillie Rudman Peterson. We know he is now with friends and family that have gone before.?After graduating from high school, Pete traveled around the Western states from Washington State to Texas doing farm work until he was accepted into the Civilian Conservation Corp. He joined the United States Navy in 1939 and served in the Atlantic Fleet during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and settled in Miami, Florida with his wife Laverna. He built spec houses during the day and operated a neighborhood pub in the evening. ?After Laverna's death in 1963, he met and married Bettie Jo Tuten. In 1965 they moved to Charleston, SC where he began his career as an owner/operator of many Burger Kings. After retirement in 1979, he enjoyed golfing and gardening with Bettie. They moved to Raleigh in 2009 to be closer to family.?He is survived by his beloved of 48 years wife, Bettie Jo Peterson of Raleigh; daughters, Nadeen Peterson of New York; Myra Bridgeman and Susan Safran and husband Perry of Raleigh; grandsons, Douglas Kilzer and wife Kari of New York, Stephen Safran and wife Jackie of Morrisville, Jason Safran and wife Jennifer of Raleigh, and David Safran and fiancé Elizabeth Vestal of Greensboro, NC; great grandchildren Beckett Kilzer, Matthew Safran, Sabrina Safran, Lucas Safran, and Emma Safran.  ?A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 3 PM at Raleigh Memorial Park Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave. Raleigh. ?In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Halushka-Peterson Endowed Fund, MUSC Foundation, 18 D Street, MSC450, Charleston, SC 29425.?Arrangements by Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, Saint Mary's St. Raleigh, NC.
