Vernon Volz, 82, of Huntsville AL, passed away Wednesday April 17 at his home. Vernon was born November 1, 1930 in Sterling Co. Vernon was the son of Benjamin and Margaret (Eeckhout) Volz. He graduated from Julesburg High School in May 1948. On September 4th 1955 Vernon married Helen Kanzler in Greeley Co. In November 1998 Vernon and Helen moved to Huntsville AL to be close to their son and family.
Mr. Volz was a member of the United Church of Huntsville. He was a successful lifelong wheat farmer for over 50 years and wine enthusiast since 1980. He traveled to California for wine tasting for 18 straight years with the help of his chauffeur Helen. He was a very loving husband, devoted father and adoring grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Volz; son, Alan Volz (Lisa); and grandsons, Ben Volz and Sam Volz, all of Huntsville.
Funeral services were held in Huntsville April 20th, Dr. Robert Hurst officiating. Memorial service will be held at Austin-Tennant Funeral Home Saturday May 4th at 10:30 am, burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Julesburg, Colorado. Memorials can be made to the Audio Visual Fund at United Church of Huntsville, 7906 Whitesburg Dr., Huntsville, AL 35802. Austin-Tennant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
