Jack Elden Jensen Obituary
Jack Elden Jensen was born in rural Sedgwick County Colorado, south of Julesburg, Colorado on April 30, 1922 to J.O. and Fern Jensen. Jack suffered a stroke and passed away on March 5, 2014, just a few weeks short of his 92nd birthday.
Jack grew up on the family farm and attended grade school at the rural Liberty school. He graduated from the Sedgwick County High School in Julesburg in 1939. After graduation Jack worked at the local Safeway grocery store.
Jack volunteered to join the Army Air Corps early in World War II. While on leave from the Army Air Corps Jack returned home and married Constance Elaine Pursel from neighboring Big Springs, Nebraska on July 11, 1943. To this union four daughters were born: Pat, Terri, Cathi and Ginger. Last summer Jack and Connie celebrated their 70 years of marriage.
Following WWII, Jack returned to Julesburg, Colorado where he was briefly employed at Hodges Manufacturing. A short time later Jack was employed by the US Postal Service - when the Post Office was located downtown on Cedar Street. In 1956 Jack transferred to the Scottsdale, Arizona Post Office and moved his family to Arizona. Jack retired from the Postal Service in 1977. As a secondary job Jack prepared income tax returns starting in 1960. In 1989 he formed his own tax business which he ran until 2010. At that time he and Connie moved to Christian Care in Phoenix, Arizona, where he resided until his death.
Jack was a very outgoing person with a giving heart and a great sense of humor. He loved home made ice cream, and was a baseball fan his entire life.
Jack is survived by his wife of 70 years, Connie, and their four daughters: Pat and her husband Jim Hammond of Rhode Island, Terri and her husband Ron Pearlman, Cathi Searles, and Ginger and her husband John Zuber all of Phoenix, Arizona. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents J.O. and Fern Jensen, and his four brothers, Dewayne, Dean, Joe and Don.
A memorial service was held at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Chaparral Christian Church in Scottsdale, Arizona. Advantage Colonial Chapel of Phoenix was in charge of arrangements.
