Mildred Berniece "Millie" (Miller) O'Dell Obituary
Mildred "Millie" Berniece O'Dell, 94, formerly of Julesburg, CO, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2014 in Golden, CO. Visitation was held Friday, June 13th, at Austin-Tennant Funeral Home in Julesburg from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 14th, at the United Methodist Church in Julesburg at 11:00am with Pastor Kristie Firme officiating. Interment followed at Hillside Cemetery in Julesburg,CO
Millie was born July 17, 1919 to Mary and Arthur Miller in Sedgwick, CO. Her Dad, Arthur, passed away at a very young age and her Mother, Mary remarried Earl Goble of Brush, CO. She was the second oldest of eight children. She attended rural school and began at an early age to help care for her younger brothers and sisters and to work for surrounding neighbors to help out with expenses of the family. She met Elton L. O'Dell at a dance they both attended and they were married July 17, 1940 and made their home south of Julesburg where they farmed and raised livestock. To this union were born three children, Judy Berniece in 1943, Leon Layton in 1946 who died in infancy, and Daniel Leroy in 1951.
Millie and Elton lived on the O'Dell family farm most of their married life. Elton became ill and passed away in February of 2007. After his death, Millie moved to Lakewood, CO to be closer to family where she resided in her own home until 2012 when she moved to Golden Pond Assisted Living in Golden, CO.
Millie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Julesburg for many years. She enjoyed many interests, the most important being her family. She loved to sew and enjoyed many crafts. She always had a big vegetable garden and enjoyed canning and freezing. Her flower garden was a very special part of her life and she spent many happy hours there.
Millie is survived by her daughter, Judy Bellairs and husband, Dennis of Lakewood, CO; her son, Dan O'Dell and wife Kathy of Northglenn, CO; two sisters Velma Jesse of Wheat Ridge, CO and Lois Burns of Akron, CO, a sister-in-law Joyce (Jo) Goble of Brush, CO; three grandchildren, Michelle Bellairs of Golden, CO, Brooke Loader and husband Shane of Ft. Collins, CO, Brian O'Dell and wife Tiffeny of Bennett, CO; six great-grandchildren and lots of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Elton, her infant son, Leon, her parents, three brothers, Richard Miller, Rex Goble, and Max Goble; two sisters, Ilene Bacon and Jane Rowley, sister-in-law Charlotte Miller, brothers-in-law Leo Sherrer, Bruce Bacon and Howard Jesse. She will be dearly missed.
Memorials can be made in lieu of flowers to the Mildred O'Dell memorial fund to be given to those who assisted Millie, C/O Judy Bellairs 1979 So. Garland Way, Lakewood, CO 80227. Austin-Tennant Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
