Shirley Ackley Obituary

Shirley was born May 26, 1927 to Richard and Mildred Dickover in Portland OR. She graduated from Washington H. S. in 1945. Shirley attended the University of Washington where she met Douglas Ackley. Their marriage vows were performed in Portland on September 6, 1947 - sixty fve years ago!
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Molly, her daughter who survived only 36 hours, and her grandson Cedar. She is survived by her husband, her son David Richard Ackley (and wife Lynn Ate) and daughter, Deborah Anne Ackley (and husband, David Pfenning.) as well as two granddaughters, Brianna and Raineka.
After her marriage Shirley worked as a cashier for United Airlines and offce machine operator for the Texas Co. She moved with her family to Fairbanks Alaska in 1956. She was a full time homemaker, part time offce store clerk, member of the Fairbanks garden club, member of P. E. O. and secretary of the Republican Women's Club as well as a member of Eastern Star. Thirteen years later the family moved to Juneau where she added the task of managing the hospital gift shop. When Doug retired, they moved to Scottsdale, AZ where they lived for seven years before moving to Medford, OR in 2002.
Shirley loved generously and showed an elegant pioneering spirit. She enjoyed boating, fshing, and crabbing in Southeast Alaska. She loved horse riding and ballet when she was young, skiing during her middle years, and tai-chi and line dancing when she grew older.
Her death, brought on by complications due to pneumonia, was unexpected, and there will always be an empty place in our hearts due to her passing.
