Barbara Jean "Barb" Hill

Barbara Jean (Barb) Hill of Shelton died of complications from a stroke Thursday, January 3, 2013. She was 76 years old.

She was born September 6, 1936 in Oklahoma City to Ralph Booth and Viva Spry. Barbara was raised in Olalla, Washington and raised her family in Tacoma until 1973, when she relocated the family to Juneau, Alaska.
Barb raised her four children while working in restaurants as a waitress, manager and owner. She worked at the Nugget Department Store from the late 70's until her retirement in 1986.
She met Robert Hill in Alaska and they married in Reno on September 18, 1981, (their granddaughter Sara's day of birth). Barb and Bob enjoyed many years of joy together which included riding motorcycles, flying planes and raising horses. Bob preceded her in death in 2000.
Barbara was a member of the Red Hat Club and bowled on the same bowling team with close friends for over 20 years. She loved her family, her black lab Rascal, bowling, gardening, canning foods, making jam and playing cribbage. During the summer you would see Barb riding her John Deere tractor around the property. Barb was a woman of character and heart, and lived enthusiastically.
Barbara was preceded in death by her son, Michael Collins, parents Viva Spry and Ralph Booth and husband Robert Hill. Surviving her are brother, William Booth of Columbia Falls Montana, daughters, Joanne White of Tampa, Florida, Sherry (Bill) Meyer of Tacoma, Washington and Kristi (Kurt) West of Juneau, Alaska, stepchildren, Barbara (Jerry) Duncan of Juneau, Alaska, Norma (Barry) Unger, Ron (Susie) and Penny Chapman of Washington and Tracy Hill of Arizona. Other survivors include grandchildren, Sara and Nels Sanford, Jesse West, Matt (Margie) and Josh (Jessica) Dolge, Ben (Monica) Nigh, Molly Meyer and Carmen Centore, ten great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Barb's ashes will be released in her favorite spots in Alaska and Washington. Memorial donations may be made to Providence St. Peter's Hospital in Olympia.
