Eileen Mildred (Forgatsch) Wheeler(1923 - 2014)

Eileen Mildred Forgatsch Wheeler

The Lord Jesus called Eileen home to heaven February 9, 2014. She was born November 23, 1923, to William and Tessie Forgatsch, in Fremont, Ohio. During WWII, Eileen manufactured ammunition for bombers. Later, she had two daughters, and in 1963, adventured to Wenatchee, Washington, where she worked in retail sales. In 1976, Eileen moved to Juneau, and worked first at Casler's Men's Wear, then for many years at B.M. Behrends Department Store, and finally, at the Alaska Governor's Mansion, where she served as head housekeeper during the Sheffield and Cooper administrations. Eileen loved singing in Sweet Adelines, her many lifelong friendships, Fritzy her dog, her sweet home, and her family at Christ Lutheran Church. She will be remembered for her quick smile, easy hospitality, and concern for others.

Eileen is survived by her daughters, Judy Reidling and Carol Howell; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Eileen's memorial service will be held February 22, at 11:30 am, Christ Lutheran Church, 10300 Glacier Highway, Juneau, AK 99801. Immediately following the service, a luncheon will be served in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eileen's name to your local VFW, Christ Lutheran Church or Catholic Community Services, 419 6th Street , Juneau, AK 99801.
