Sherri Wolfe passed away Friday, June 13 succumbing to cancer after a heroic 3 year battle. Sherri was born January 14, 1947 to Donald and Marvis Townsend in Pasadena, CA where she grew up. She was educated in the CA schools and attended San Diego State University and UCLA where she got her Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science.
A move to Juneau in 1983 led to meeting Ron Wolfe, the couple married in January 1985 and were blessed with two sons; Forrest and Hunter. Sherri was a devoted mother, helped at school and great sports enthusiast, especially for her son's teams. She will be remember for her exuberant, some may say loud, cheering at all games or even when Ron was refereeing football. She could be counted on to host Super Bowl, World Series, basketball or softball parties.
In Juneau, she worked for Department of Fish and Game in Douglas, the Energy Assistance program and finally the Limited Entry Fish Commission, where she retired in June 2013. At each job she was blessed because she made good friends.
Her favorite hobby and past time was people. Her warmth made it so easy for a stranger, a friend and family alike to talk with her comfortably. She could befriend a waiter in the restaurant or bellman at the hotel. But she was especially a good confidant, special friend and good listener to many; she will be greatly missed.
Sherri had such a positive upbeat outlook on life, she looked for the good in things and was always ready to have fun or experience new things. The Wolfe family was blessed when after receiving the diagnosis they were able to enjoy 8 months in Hawaii where Sherri made the most of each day. They returned to May as her time came closer and she was fortunate to see some friends one last time.
Sherri was happy that she lived a good life, accepted that her time had come, was ready to pass, and is at peace with our Lord and in the love of our Savior Jesus Christ. Her burdens are lifted and she is at home with her beloved son, Hunter. She is preceded in death by her mother Marvis, her father Donald Townsend, brother-in-law Rick Wolfe, fathers-in-law George Wolfe and John Willet, "grandma B" Bettie Willet and nephew Wade. She is survived by husband Ron, son Forrest, her brother Douglas Townsend of Baltimore, MD, nephew Matt Townsend, his wife Stacey and daughter Elizabeth of New York, NY and nieces Sarah Townsend and Christine Wolfe of Washington D.C.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, June 21 at 4 PM at Chapel by the Lake. In lieu of flowers please send contributions (make checks payable) to the Hunter Wolfe Memorial Account at Wells Fargo Bank, 9150 Glacier Hwy, Juneau, AK 99801.
