Annabel Rose (Oversby) Rondeau, age 62, loving wife, mother, friend and teacher passed away on Friday, October 7, 2016. There were so many family, wonderful friends and medical personnel who helped Annabel since her diagnosis of cancer seven months ago.

Annabel was born in Seattle in 1954, graduated from Lincoln high school and in 1977 from Western Washington University. In 1986 Annabel finished her master's in education at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and in 1992 completed her master's in Library Science at University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.

Annabel started her teaching career in 1977 with Northwest Arctic School district in Kotzebue, Alaska, and later moved "up river" to teach in Kiana. Living "in the bush" was unique and Annabel volunteered at the local radio station, had camping adventures on the Kobuk River, gathered with friends for incredible northern lights and owned a snow machine for transportation.

The following year Annabel moved to Italy to earn her Association Montessori International degree. She loved exploring Italy and the rest of Europe and striking out on adventures to visit friends in other countries. Her favorite town was Assisi, Italy.

Annabel taught Montessori at Milwaukee public schools in Wisconsin. She met her husband Dan Rondeau on cross country skis while racing in the American Birkebeiner ski marathon. They married in 1986 and enjoyed many years of skiing, canoeing, biking, sailing, backpacking in the Pacific Northwest and traveling across Europe on a Eurail pass.

Annabel's son Luc was born in 1992 and he was soon sharing travel adventures including visiting her friend Beth Leban in Cairo Egypt and seeing the holy lands. Annabel loved animals and adopted two beloved apricot colored cocker spaniels named Molly and Lucy.

In 2009 Annabel moved back to Alaska and taught a 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade blend for the Juneau Montessori Borealis program at Harborview. She truly loved her students and helped them start their lives with a love of learning. After seven years she celebrated her retirement in June of this year.

Annabel is preceded in death by her father Robert Oversby, survived by her husband of 30 years, Daniel Rondeau, and her son Luc, her mother Eleanor Freebairn, her sister Karen Clarke, her brother Steven Oversby, her half sister Joyce Cail, and Aunt Marietta Rawson. Family plans to rest her ashes o'er the wild and wonderful places which Annabel so often sought.

Annabel brought such joy to everything she shared in this world. She is an inspiration to us all as to how to live life the fullest without fear, even when she knew she had just hours.

May we all hold Annabel dearly in our hearts.
