Longtime Hoonah, Alaska resident, Arlene Judy Jewell, 70, passed away after a brief battle with cancer, Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage.

A celebration of Arlene's life will be held 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall, 320 West Willoughby Ave. in Juneau. Sam Willard will officiate. Additional services will be held 6:00 pm., Friday, April 24, 2015 in Hoonah, Alaska. Pallbearers will include, William Abbott Sr., Walter Jewell III, Peter Jewell, Sam Willard Jr., Jose Arreola, Duane Bosch and Steven Palmer. Arlene's ashes will be scattered ceremonially in one year by Cannery Point in Hoonah.

Arlene was born October 16, 1944 to Frank & Ruth (Dalton) Jackson in Juneau, Alaska. She grew up in Juneau and had lived in Hoonah most of her life. Arlene worked as the ANS Pull Tab Shoppe Manager for several years and had also worked as a cook at the Senior Center from which she retired. Arlene was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a lifelong member of the Alaska Native Sisterhood Camp 12, holding various positions including camp president. She enjoyed scrabble, crocheting, organizing Sunday Dinner for family and friends as well as attending community events and bingo.

"A loving wife, sister, parent, grandparent, great-grandparent and friend has left us. Arlene's open and unconditional loving heart was always there to share. She had an infectious laugh and smile that we will always remember. Arlene is loved by one and all," wrote the family.

Arlene was preceded in death by Frank Jackson; Brownie and Ruth Willard; Jennifer Fawcett; Greggory Willard; Lillian Fawcett; Frank Fawcett; Mary Ann Flake; Johnny Charles; and numerous aunts, uncles and other relatives. She is survived by her husband, Walter Jewell, Jr. of Hoonah, AK; sister, Francine Koenig of Hoonah, AK; brothers, Browne Willard of Juneau, AK and Samuel Willard, Sr. of Hoonah, AK; sisters, Eva Kankanton of Anchorage, AK and Karen Palmer (Steven) of Eagle River, AK; brother, Larry Willard (Diane) of Ketchikan, AK; sons, Robert Jackson and Shayne Morris (Lateefa) of Seattle, WA; daughters, Teresa Charles of Seattle, WA, April Morris of Hoonah, AK and Francine Pegues (Doug) of Juneau, AK; sons, William Abbott Sr. (Maria) of Juneau, AK and Frank Sharclane of Hoonah, AK; daughter, Danielle Arreola (Jose) of Juneau, AK; sons, Phillip Sharclane, Jr. (Anne) of Hoonah, AK, Walter Jewell III (Tess) of Seattle, WA and Peter Jewell (Heidi) of Hoonah, AK; 24 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren & numerous nieces and nephews.
